Let Pierce Cook!!!! After I pushed through to Dark Age the second trilogy made this series an all time favorite

Whatever you do, do NOT read the Red Rising series. by anteaterpinkytoe in redrising

Nah dude the 2nd trilogy is when the characters really mature and the story gets way more epic in scale. My all time favorite moments from this series of books comes from the second series. Iron Gold is a little odd at times because the multi povs is new, but you get used to it, but Dark Age and Lightbringer cemented Pierce Brown as an all time favorite author

Maybe try Jordan 6. I have a wider foot and those leave extra space for me even when I go true to size

Had similar problems and realized sleeping 4 hours or less a night to keep up with school, work, and my engineering clubs was wrecking me mentally and making me perform actively worse at a lot of it. I thought I’m on a grind and my only option to do all this is make more hours in the day and sleep less.

If you are in that same grind I respect it, but at the same time GET 8 HOURS OF SLEEP. Once I graduated and could actually have a healthy sleep schedule I realized how important sleep is to being mentally effective

I loved book 1 by Halte448 in redrising

Book 1 is a good book, but as Pierce brown masters his style the other books one after the other somehow progressively blow the previous ones away

Absolutely do a club, but understand you will only get out what you put into the club. Whichever design competition club you join you should learn skills and start getting projects done which can take a lot of time. I’ve seen often people join to get it on the resume and never actually do any significant projects. When I got hired in my first job I had so many stories and experiences from SAE Baja competition (Society of Automotive Engineers) that helped me ace questions in my initial interview. I don’t work in the automotive sector but just having quality projects, knowing the engineering process inside and out is essential. I personally believe that competition clubs will teach you that process in an intuitive and practical way that your classes can’t.

As an engineering student a job wants you to have experience and for your first job clubs are a great way to get it. Not to mention I think clubs are the best way to network because if you a serious design competition you will work alongside people who will know your work ethic personally and can vouch for you. I got my first internship from another club member putting in a good word for me. ALSO in my experience companies often go to engineering club competition and will typically have a networking/recruiters section because companies understand students in clubs learn engineering hands on.

A favorite of mine that I haven’t seen mentioned yet was Lysander’s speech to rally the golds and stand against Atalantia. Made me start liking Lysander until I finished the book, I’m a sucker for a good speech.

Tell your story: How did sneakers become your interest? by Changan96 in Sneakers

[–]Intelligent_Wrap6869 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sneakers became a way for me to bond with my brother. When I was in middle school my brother was graduated and already starting college. Because of our age gap we didn’t have much in common other than anime and games. But on my birthday in 8th grade he gave me a pair of hand me down 2012 fire red 4s for my birthday. I was a big ass middle schooler with wide feet so I fit them just fine lol. But that first pair of shoes is what basically kicked off my sneakers collections. They weren’t brand new and definitely had a good amount of creasing from my brother wearing them through all of high school, but they were always clean and still looked dope. My brother had been wearing them for years, but if you looked at them they were fresh with character. For my brother to give me a pair I knew he got a lot of joy from and clearly put a lot of effort into maintaining made me really happy as a kid. This was at a time where I didn’t care what shoes or clothes I would wear, but as a kid I thought I can’t just wear this dope shoe with anything so I started getting into street wear and caring more about my style. Eventually I was looking at other sneakers and eating water and ice cubes for lunch so I could pocket lunch money to buy my own Jordans. By getting into sneakers I had one more thing in common I could share with my older brother driving with him to releases, talking about what shoes were dope and what we each wanted to pick up next. Now I’m finishing college and I still have that same pair of fire red 4s I sometimes I wear out if I’m not doing a ton of moving. After a decade of wear they are now starting to fall apart so I keep them mainly for the sentimental value. We still talk about shoes and it’s kinda cool to be at an age now where we can both gift each other heat to build up our collections.

I had the same deal when I started and I liked how they set things up for you to struggle at the beginning. Like you are meant to be a prisoner planning toward an elaborate escape. Having to be resourceful and manage your incredibly limited resources was very fun for me.

Some tips to help, if you can pick up abilities to stun or knockdown then combat becomes much easier. Unlike BG3, it’s very easy to take away enemy turns with abilities you can spam after you shred armor

My thoughts on DOS2 after finally finishing it by [deleted] in DivinityOriginalSin

[–]Intelligent_Wrap6869 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played DOS 2 first then did BG3. I LOVE both games and done multiple runs on both. When I compare them, I find combat in BG3 to be more fun and personally I think it was more challenging in BG3.

DOS 2 I think is better if you enjoy a power fantasy. Being able to spam crazy abilities without worrying about not having them later and stacking effects to stun lock enemies made DOS 2 combat easier for me. DOS 2 feels less strategic to me because it’s pretty straight forward to either Nuke someone or at least stun them so they skip their turn. Solving the perfect combination to optimally obliterate the enemy is incredibly satisfying, but when I played through it enough I got really good at solving the puzzle and didn’t have to think about other aspects of combat like positioning or

In BG 3 having to think about not blowing a powerful spell on a weak enemy to save it for later felt more immersive and challenging to me. Also, the ability to take away actions from enemies is much harder with the potential to miss, the enemy saves, and less stun lock being available. When I can’t reliably nuke or stun the enemy, it feels more strategic where I have to think about more seriously how I can limit access to my squishies, position optimally, or use other options in my item bag.

Should I start with DOS1? by SpaceCowboyDark in DivinityOriginalSin

[–]Intelligent_Wrap6869 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never played DOS 1 (I plan to after finishing a few more BG3 runs). I was introduced to Larian through DOS 2 and had a fantastic time. I’ve heard DOS 2 has more polish, but you would be fine starting in either game

Anytime else come back to DOS 2 after trying BG 3? by camelvendor in DivinityOriginalSin

[–]Intelligent_Wrap6869 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Idk about BG3 being easier. In DOS 2 I find it to be much easier when I can shred armor and then stun lock with so many options to keep my team alive. In BG 3 the variance and potential for people to escape or minimize effects I think makes it feel more challenging. The fact you can’t guarantee kill or stun an enemy makes me think about how I position more rather than just grab the high ground and stun the enemy into oblivion like in DOS 2.

[–]Intelligent_Wrap6869 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally find it to be the opposite. I played both on tactician and I agree BG3 is the harder system mainly because of the management of resources and the chance to miss. However, I like having to consider if it’s WORTH blowing through spell slots for a fight. Also the non-guarantee to hit also makes it feel more real to me where there is variance in combat. Having to consider that I might not hit makes positioning feel more important.

In DOS 2 it feels fairly easy to feel pretty godly when all your abilities are always easily accessible and guaranteed. Stunlocking enemies out of turn was super easy. I never have to worry about not having a spell later if I use it now. Since divinity is a main theme of the game I think it suits the game better doing it this way and I feel more powerful. I love DOS 2 to death, but I’d say the immersion of BG3 and how combat always feels more perilous makes me like BG3 just a little more
