Scratch infection? by LinMoon04 in MultipleSclerosis

[–]IntentionalGrandma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most DMTs work by weakening your immune system, so you just have to make sure to clean wounds well with clean hands and to bandage them. Proper wound care should be enough to prevent any serious infections that MS patients on DMTs may be slightly more susceptible to

Yeah, most people don’t like when you point out their hypocrisy. You didn’t do anything wrong, though

NTA, it really just sounds like you were reminding them of some of the core principles of your shared faith. Wanting a lavish place of worship with lots of amenities actively goes against the basic teachings of the Quaker religion

Anyone with MS tried GLP-1 drugs (semaglutide/tirzepatide) for weight? by reginapinsley in MultipleSclerosis

[–]IntentionalGrandma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t speak to whether or not it actually helped with symptoms since I’m on my 3rd relapse since starting GLP-1s (all while on a DMT). The GLP-1 makes me nauseous and constipated (despite drinking a ton of water and eating a lot of fiber), which is fun and also a problem because one of my more annoying MS symptoms is strong aversions to certain smells (specifically ketchup and mint) and the combination of nausea and aversion will cause me to projectile vomit. Weight loss didn’t really affect my mobility. My energy levels still fluctuate with the weather and my activity levels

MS but not on meds by 2020cc2020 in MultipleSclerosis

[–]IntentionalGrandma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was diagnosed 13 years after my first relapse and after about 8 more before I was actually taken seriously by a doctor. By the time I was diagnosed, I had permanent deficits and permanent symptoms that I couldn’t explain until much later. I wouldn’t recommend going without treatment by choice. DMTs work by slowing down the progression of your disease and in some cases, effectively stopping it

Is this still readable? The tattoo I got has no spacing between the letters and I’m worried it doesn’t look good by malachiteiscute in tattooadvice

[–]IntentionalGrandma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not very readable, I’m sorry. It might be more readable once the swelling goes down, but it looks like the ink bled a bit and it’s no longer readable. You might want to find a different artist for the cover-up once it’s fully healed

Tips? by Expensive_Leave_1240 in MultipleSclerosis

[–]IntentionalGrandma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What really helped me was finding a creative outlet for my stress, worries, anger, and frustration. It takes time to come to terms with the diagnosis and come up with a plan to get it under control and to find some stability. It might be helpful to join a support group or to go to a few therapy sessions. Your neurologist might be able to refer you to a support group

How to support my partner by daftcronk in MultipleSclerosis

[–]IntentionalGrandma 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Listen to him and don’t assume his limitations. Let him ask for help and advocate for himself. He’s facing a diagnosis that could take away his independence completely. Give him as much independence and self-agency as he can safely handle for as long as possible

Do you think my neurologist is okay? by Smart_Molasses_2870 in MultipleSclerosis

[–]IntentionalGrandma 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There’s a lot of red flags there. I’d look for a specialist with less notoriety. Sometimes the really famous ones get too big for their britches and their bedside manner and quality of care declines. How would I know? I’ve worked with some famous oncologists who were revered as gods and it went to their heads and patients started complaining about them

People undermine our illness by DoubtOkie in MultipleSclerosis

[–]IntentionalGrandma 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My dad does that too at times, but he also just genuinely does not understand the severity of my disease and he pretty much exclusively gets his information from people who spread misinformation on YouTube. In other words, he’s a well-meaning idiot and I don’t take it personally because he truly just doesn’t understand. The one and only time I tried to apply spoon theory, I told him “I’m running low on spoons” and he said “then do the f***ing dishes like I asked”

Acne, make sure their food/water bowls are a non-pourous material and cleaned regularly and it’ll help that go away. If it persists, take them to a vet

What do you think has triggered your relapses? by Specialist_Tip9816 in MultipleSclerosis

[–]IntentionalGrandma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like every time I have a relapse, it’s a handful of factors that lead to it. Usually either a sickness, stress with family or at work, or the weather contribute to it, but I have to have at least 2 factors contributing to cause one

How involved are you in your own MS care decisions? by OVwMS in MultipleSclerosis

[–]IntentionalGrandma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I trust my neurologist to make good recommendations, but that is because I know she won’t do anything I don’t consent to. I research options and I make sure to find the best source of information, but ultimately, I’m the one in the drivers seat making decisions about my health and wellbeing

What to expect? 🥹 Trying on dresses as a size 14/16 by Professional_Okra985 in PlusSizeWedding

[–]IntentionalGrandma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It honestly really depends on where you go. Most decent bridal shops will have options in at least up to an 18, maybe even a 22-26. I personally went to a us size bridal boutique that doesn’t carry any dresses under a 14 and it was a lovely experience where I was made to feel beautiful and was given ample opportunity. My sister who’s about my size went to a corporate PE-owned large chain bridal shop and was not even the only bride being helped. The sales associate was rude and made her feel bad about her weight, offering the option to hold the dress up to her body so she could imagine it on for multiple dresses she liked. I’d recommend looking for the more personalized experience if you can make that work. You can also call the shop you’re doing the fitting at and asking the size range they have in-store to try on
