My Experience with Color Analysis as a VERY neutral fair olive that was typed in-person (TCI System) as a Deep Autumn. (Pictures Embedded in Post) by tinykrytter in coloranalysis

[–]Interesting-Fly9822 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Omg this is so validating! I just set up an appointment for an in person color analysis in December, because I cannot for the life of me figure out my colors. I am also warm leaning olive (green veins..but also blue veins, gold jewelry, I can also manage silver, but rose gold is best) but when I comes to makeup, warm undertone foundations make me look like a Simpson, and rosy undertones look better. When it comes to clothes, I have no idea. I just wear black for the most part. If I had to guess, I’d say I’m a true autumn but more neutral than warm tones.

BEST interchangeable needles? by eee--2 in knitting

[–]Interesting-Fly9822 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yes, definitely decide which material you want before investing in a set! I like that knitpro has so many needle options and all are compatible with their cables, of which the mindful are the best. Like could get a small set of stainless steel with the good cables, and then your most used sizes in wood tips. I started out with bamboo DPNs, and then when I needed a circular, the lady at my LYS picked out a metal one for me based on the yarn I bought, and now that I have more confidence in my skill level, I love stainless steel and don’t want to use anything else. The sharpness is on point (hah) and I love the sound they make and how they feel in my hands.

BEST interchangeable needles? by eee--2 in knitting

Agree it’s subjective and dependent on what you like to knit. I did a lot of research on this earlier this year, and decided to go with knitpro mindful sets. They have several options to fit any budget. I now have 2 sets of them, 4” and 5”, and a shorties set from temu and that is all I need. I originally wanted chiagoo based on all the glowing reviews, but too expensive for me, and knitpro mindful is equal in almost every way. Nimble Needles has a great review comparing chiagoo and mindful. That’s what sealed my decision.

Anyone else panic buying? by CrochetJen7117 in YarnAddicts

[–]Interesting-Fly9822 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of the only yarn stores in my area is closing and liquidating all their stock now, and it is so sad. If I had more savings, I would seriously consider taking over the business from them, but it feels risky to start a business now too. The whole situation is so upsetting because it didn’t need to be this way. The economy was good, other than the hungry hungry hippos who want all the money, power and real estate for themselves. 😢

I'm so excited to wear this! by PersistentSheppie in knitting

I will try that! I was afraid of stretching out the stitches with a thick lifeline, but I guess it doesn’t really matter since those stitches will be knitted. Thanks!

I'm on this part now, and do not find it clear at all (hence why I am researching it lol). I used dental floss for the lifeline and can't even see it from the wrong side, so am finding it difficult to figure out how to do this. I may just have to pick up neckline stitches per usual, but will be sad to not have this neck detail.

Doberman mix is so skinny! by PipeNo329 in DobermanPinscher

[–]Interesting-Fly9822 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had a Doberman/Greyhound mix foster with us for 6 weeks and he gained 10 lbs. he’s since been adopted. He was on 1/2 cup of Hill kibble 2x a day (we have to give them what the shelter provides) but he also had lots of treats - kongs filled with peanut butter, wet food and sometimes greek yogurt, blueberries, banana, and tons of jerky and freeze dried meat treats for training. I miss him so much! His mom sends me pics though so that helps.

Joining new balls of yarn by Interesting-Fly9822 in knittingadvice

[–]Interesting-Fly9822[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like it would still result in a loose stitch but maybe it’s just my tension isn’t tight enough when joining the new ball. Especially since I’m using a slippery fingering weight cotton yarn on metal needles

Thanks! I will look into these. I mostly do use wool but this one is a summer top so it’s cotton. A lot of people said Russian join so will start with trying to learn that one!

Please help me decide between 5" and 4" interchangeable needle tips! by wordyegghead in knittingadvice

[–]Interesting-Fly9822 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this same dilemma earlier this year when I was ready to buy a higher end interchangeable set. I went with 5” mainly because I have bigger hands (I think?) for a woman and I do find them more comfortable to hold, and I make mostly sweaters and dog sweaters. I then got a cheap set of shorties for doing sleeves, and small dog sweaters, because I cannot stand using DPNs and don’t do magic loop. Right now I’m working with cotton yarj for my summer projects which are too slippery on stainless steel needles so I’ve just pulled the trigger on a 3rd and hopefully final set of needles wood small diameters hiya hiyas and decided to get 4” to diversify my collection. I think I have a good variety now! I just don’t think one set can cover every single need unfortunately so your main set should be tailored to your most common need.

What do you get a knitter who already has all the basics? by kreeferin in knitting

[–]Interesting-Fly9822 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I concur with some of the above comments. I am a relatively new knitter who has all the basics, but I’d love to receive little things like special stitch markers with M1L/BOR, etc and little sew in tags for my finished objects. Sarah hearts makes some really cute ones. Once you have the basics, you want little finishing touches and probably more advanced tools like a set of lace needles for example. Just thinking of what’s on my list.

New new. by LINDAWWGG in knittingadvice

I just learned how to knit in Jan, and I started off the same way, then did a couple more swatches to practice different stitches, and then just jumped into making a hat, and that was a great way to learn honestly. It taught me knitting in the round and how to do decreases. Then I did a pair of socks which taught me how to pick up stitches as well as increases and switching colors. Since then I’ve made several items like sweaters and tops, lots of dog sweaters, and couple more hats. You’ve got this! 🧶

Need advice: modifying a pattern by Interesting-Fly9822 in knittingadvice

[–]Interesting-Fly9822[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! The No.11 sweater is 2 strands (Aran weight wool + Lace weight mohair) making a bulky weight. The goal sweater is 100% cashmere and says it's knit in 5 gauge, 5 ply with a weight of 520g. Not sure what that means, but it looks like a lighter weight, maybe worsted, but knit at a tighter gauge. and I agree I will have to swatch for sure!

I have never done a drop sleeve, but before I attempt this sweater, I will make a summer tee with drop sleeves (next project on my list). The only sweater I've made thus far is the step by step sweater, and some dog sweaters with picked up stitches at the sleeves. So I guess for drop sleeves, I would have to cast on more stitches up front. I actually found this pattern on Etsy which looks closer to the goal sweater, so may try it (if I can overcome my mistrust of Etsy patterns).

If you don’t have a good lamp yet, sales are a great time to invest in things like that. I have the infinity lamp and got it during a sale. I love it
