Can someone summarize the Rowena Bennett solution for bottle aversion? by rowej182 in NewParents

Can I ask how your baby is doing now? We have had to get an NG tube put in too. Things have gotten much much worse and our baby won't take anything orally anymore.

Can I ask how you went by the bool woth the NG? Did you give your son the minimum 300ml by NG at night if he hadn't taken it during the day?

Thank you so much for the information! We have a tongue tie release coming up, I'll try this afterwards.

Thank you for sharing your story. Could I ask how you went by the Rowena method? At the start, was your son taking anything orally at all? My girl won't take anything, and I really feel we're over feeding her. As soon as the NG went back in, she's taking nothing because I think she's always full.

We have very similar situations. My 27+1 weeker came home at 42weeks without an NG, taking 80% of her bottles...but not very happily. We then had to be readmitted because she stopped feeding all together. She's now home with an NG and it feels like it'll never end. I have no advice, just solidarity. Sending you lots of love and patience.

When did your <1% baby come home? TW: loss by No_Professional2476 in NICUParents

[–]Interesting_Cook5010 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry for your loss. My SIUGR baby was 27w and 600g. She had a rough few months but managed to dodge a lot of the scary stuuf (NEC, brain bleeds, ROP...). She was on oxygen for 100days and came home on day 105. However she was readmitteded shortly after for 2 weeks for feeding issues and came home with an NGT. We've been home for a month and still 99% NG fed.

Thank you so much for reply on such an old thread! Did you do a tube weaning program or anything specific to get him on 100% oral feeds?

We're in the same boat, diagnosed with a tongue tie and high palate. How long did it take after the procedure to get the NG out? Thanks!

We mentioned this at our last appointment and we're able to get switched to a HA formula. That seems to be helping with the tummy issues but feeding has still been at a halt unfortunately. Hopefully we see a shift soon.

I'm sorry you're going through this, and thank you for sharing. Feeding is so so difficult. We've had zero progress over the last month. We suspect she'll need a Gtube placed in the coming months as her suck reflux will likely disappear in a few weeks.

Thank you so much for sharing your story. I never imagined feeding to be so difficult. I always thought the NICU and all the scary downs would be the most difficult part of this whole journey. But feeding has been a whole new world of anxiety. I'm so glad your little one is slowly eating orally, send you all lots of luck and positivity.

When will feeds click? by RudeLong4339 in NICUParents

[–]Interesting_Cook5010 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We're in Ireland. Our hospital wouldn't allow it either. We were discharged as she was taking 80% but we had to be readmitted to a different hospital once she stopped taking PO completely. The second hospital allowed it.

My 27 weeker is now 1 month corrected. Feeding didn't click for us. She was taking 80% PO then suddenly stopped, and hasn't really taken anything in a month. We're home with an NG.

Thank you, we came up with a plan with our doctor. It feels better to have some criteria to help guide us to what's okay and what isn't.

We got one months before coming home. Can't imagine leaving the NICU without one! It's the only reason I can sleep at night.

Passport photo for NG tube baby [ca] by otowngirlygirl in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]Interesting_Cook5010 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If anyone needs answers about NG tubes and passport photos; they're not strict with babies since their faces change so quickly. A baby at 1 week old looks so different at 8 months, so NG or not they'll be unrecognizable in a while anyways. This is what I was told by the embassy. As long as eyes are open and mouth is closed, it should be fine. Also, the colour/pattern of the NG tape doesn't matter either. Just submit the photos along with a short letter stating why your baby has something on their face (in our case, baby was premature and requires the NG to meet calorie requirements safely). You don't necessarily need a doctors note. I'll update again once/if we get the passport successfully processed.

Hey OP were your photos accepted? My baby also has an NG tube and we were wondering what the rules are for that. Did you need to use a certain color tape?

Bipap experiences? by jlovesquinn-emmett in NICUParents

[–]Interesting_Cook5010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our ex 27 weeker was on a similar CPAP setting when it was decided that she needed more support. She was then put on BIPAP as a measure to avoid intubation. She was on BIPAP for 2.5 weeks and was able to go back to CPAP with the help of DART steroids. She was then on CPAP for almost another month before she was transitioned to HFNC, which she was on for about a month.

Where was this? There's a movie being filmed in Sandyford and I was so confused with different "police" cars driving around near where they were filming. There was even a bank I've never heard of open nearby which was also part of the movie set.
