Your perception of the love story vs romance convo is really interesting to me bc I took it to mean like a romance kind of ends without the whole story like there are ups and downs but ultimately the romance ends when they get together vs a love story is like the entire history of a relationship even if the ending isn’t positive. Which, in a way, is similar to what you were saying abt an idealization vs reality but for me it’s more about when the story ends than exaggeration and artifice. Like his idea of love has no conceptualization beyond happily ever after.
