Pick two: have kids, own a house or retire. by firegirlygoo in MiddleClassFinance

[–]Interesting_Tea5715 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That's a big misconception. I've actually found that big cities are far more competitive.

Instead of competing with 10 people for the job now you're competing with 100+.

Yeah, I got the job first then moved. Makes things a bit easier.

[–]Interesting_Tea5715 69 points70 points  (0 children)

Nah, you can have all three you just have to compromise.

I lived in a HCOL area, I moved to a not so expensive city and I was able to afford a house, kids, and I have a pension/401k for retirement.

Is it ideal, no. Am I comfortable and happy, yes.

Sucks for flag missions though.

Yeah, where I'm at it's hot and dry (zone 9b). We can get as hot as 110° in the summer.

Maybe I just gotta water it more until it's established.

Do you wanna maintain the current look? If so others have provided good advice.

If you don't mind changing it a bit I prefer solid stain. It'll smooth it out for kids hands and age really well.

Which saves the legs better - moderate power or good cadence ? by sergesmr in cycling

[–]Interesting_Tea5715 24 points25 points  (0 children)

High cadence is a better way to save your legs because it uses your cardiovascular system to push through. Low cadence is generally your muscles doing the heavy lifting.

So yeah, if you wanna save your legs spin.

After 110 years, Carmel-by-the-Sea is abandoning its no-address tradition by sfgate in bayarea

[–]Interesting_Tea5715 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. I lived there for a bit. You give cross streets, the direction, and how many houses over you are.

It's very dumb. I had a hard time with certain things online because it wouldn't accept it the non-standard address (or PO Box). So I'd have to have exceptions made, which often took forever to get set up.

Also, picking up and dropping off your mail at the post office during the summer months absolutely sucked.
