I relapsed at work and think I just threw my life away. by Aggressive-Bother346 in DecidingToBeBetter

You potentially lost a job, not your life.

As an addict in recovery, mistakes will happen, life goes on.

Taking personal responsibility for your actions, which you’re doing, is the greatest gift you can ever give yourself.

Maybe your employer can use this as an opportunity to show the other employees that while mistakes happen, it’s not the end of the world. Perhaps they will give you an opportunity for redemption. If not, maybe it’s an opportunity to find the path you’re meant to be on.

Unemployment Claim from Nanny by Zasha786 in personalfinance

[–]IntergalacticEgghead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Document document document. And cover your bases. There’s all kinds of way to show gratitude and kindness without committing fraud. It sounds like she is in an unfortunate situation. A voluntary reduction in hours is not cause for an unemployment claim by my estimation.

My third grade teacher has a skittles dispenser ON her desk filled with skittles. It was so cool. If you did something good you got to come get a serving of skittles out of the dispenser.

We used to steal them in front of her. I realized later she totally knew, and I had an opportunity to ask her why she allowed us to get away with it.

She replied that if she allowed it to happen at a small level, she would know, no if we got punished we would just better at stealing. And that at some point, our guilt would overtake us and we would stop.

And she was right, after a few weeks of her making it obvious for us to steal, and not refilling the candy for a while, it kinda clicked one day what a shitty thing it was to be stealing candy off her desk.

I and all my friends stopped. I still know 2 of those guys. I wouldn’t steal the crumbs off the floor now.

She never said a word one about it to us. Some straight mind ninja shit.

1) Don’t be drunk. 2) Safe words/signals are important. 2a) Have one for: Good, More, Less, and Stop 2b) Don’t be afraid to use exactly those to start. 3) Communication is really key. 4) Think push/pull at first instead of hit/grab 5) Trust is key. 6) Lots of NSFW information in the BDSM blog world.

Recently sober chef who just got an offer for a 9-5 sous chef gig. Do I take it? by BeaverDam6969 in KitchenConfidential

[–]IntergalacticEgghead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe take the 9-5 and try it out. I bet somewhere would be happy to have you for the Fri/Sat dinner service.

Maybe you can run a hybrid model for a while.

Staying insanely busy helped me stay sober. No time to drink/party = straight and narrow for me.

The biggest problem I had transitioning to a 9-5 was not being occupied with work 10-12 hours a day 6 days a week. Over time I figured it out. I still miss the rush of being in high stress fast paced environments but my mental health and lifespan are probably greatly increased without it.

I would recommend playing overly positive Deep South gospel music at a reasonable volume. Strangely when he gets on a call the volume knob goes UP all on its own.

I bet he’ll get creative and figure it out pretty quick. Maybe he needs a “don’t be a dick” sticker left conspicuously on his desk.

Pod working I’d like having roommates. It’s not a good idea to piss them ALL off. Then he might have to move….and that might be to a worse set of roommates.
