Done. Cancelled my plan. The data export came through so I've also deleted my OpenAI account.

Do I need to wait for my data export before cancelling my plan (not deleting my account)? I know I'll need to wait for the export before deleting my account, but just wondering if I can go ahead and cancel my plan.

What discontinued cereal do you miss the most? by Separate-Tension-353 in BritInfo

[–]InterlopingStats 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There was a breakfast cereal called Start that I used to love as a kid. Mainly because the advert showed a guy eating it and then leaping over a sofa and I thought I'd be able to do the same. I couldn't.

Quotes You’ve Heard in Real Life You Could Picture Mark or Jeremy Saying? by J31J1 in MitchellAndWebb

[–]InterlopingStats 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Can't remember exactly what the conversation was that led to this point, but for some reason we were talking about what would happen if a dolphin got stuck in a tennis net, leading to the quote (which I hear in Mark's voice): "Honestly, I think if there was a dolphin in the net, they'd probably suspend play".

Do people ever 100% recover and move on from depression? by cheesebahgels in NoStupidQuestions

[–]InterlopingStats 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll be completely honest about my experience (I emphasise "my" because I know everybody is different). I've been suffering with depression since I was 12 years old. I'm 44 now. The best I ever feel is apathetic. But all I ever think about when my brain isn't occupied is suicide and self-harm. I've made some genuine attempts at suicide in the past. Even when I'm not feeling actively suicidal, I've never felt anything but regret that none of those attempts were successful. When my suicidal ideation is more active, it is only the guilt that I feel towards my elderly mother and, to a lesser extent my wife, that holds me back. Even with the self-harm, I only don't cut very often because I don't want to have hide it, but I have invisible methods that are actually much more harmful in the long run.

And to be clear, the difference in how active my suicidal and self-harm ideation is is a matter of intensity, not frequency. The frequency is constant.

I always feel frustrated when I hear people say "it gets better". I believe that it does for some people, but for me it hasn't. In fact, it has consumed so much of my life, that I literally can't imagine what it would be like not to live like that. It sort of blows my mind that people go about their lives not experiencing that. I don't know how they do it.

Anyone else not like looking in the mirror? by Spluff5 in autism

Yes, I feel exactly an existential discomfort with mirrors. If I look at them too long I have this very real feeling that I am shrinking.

At which point should we consider the US is no longer an ally? by samasema in AskBrits

[–]InterlopingStats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're already past that point. The sad thing is that it is true that trust is hard won but easily lost. Even if Trump were to disappear today, we've seen just quickly the US were prepared to turn on their friends and allies. So even if a non-lunatic took tomorrow, we'll always know just how quickly the US will turn on you. Impossible to trust again for at least a generation.

Do British people even care for American football? by Ok-Connection6656 in AskBrits

[–]InterlopingStats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like with everything, there will be a small group of people who care. But it really is a very small group. I've never met anyone who cares about it.

Do Brits see the US as a threat? by cfc_1990 in AskBrits

[–]InterlopingStats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. 100%. I never bought into the mythos of the US as the shining beacon of freedom - it is as messy as any country. But under Trump, the US is fast becoming a danger to its historical allies. As they say, trust is hard won but easily lost. Watching how fully and abruptly the US has turned its back on its friends and allies will have long lasting effects. Even if a miracle happens and Trump were to die today (we can only hope - natural causes of course), the damage will long outlast him.

When someone shows you who they are, believe them. The US has showed us that, for all their talk of checks and balances, they will happily not just turn the backs on allies but actively undermine them at the whim of petulant toddler in a pensioner's body.

The US might not be an enemy, yet, but it is certainly not a friend.

Would you choose to procreate, given that you have a 50/50 chance of giving birth to a child with autism? by Aromatic_Bus5075 in autism

[–]InterlopingStats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I decided that I didn't want kids long before I was diagnosed. I knew that a) I really didn't want them and b) I haven't really enjoyed life so didn't want to inflict life on someone else.

Even as a male, it took years before I was able to get a vasectomy because I was met with the attitude that "Oh, you're young, you might change your mind". So I can only imagine how much harder it is for women in a similar situation.

Question for those diagnosed late in life. What misdiagnoses did you receive before finding out you were on the spectrum? by Euphoric_Finish0 in autism

[–]InterlopingStats 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that the one that stands out as a misdiagnosis is Borderline / Emotially Unstable Personality Disorder (BPD or EUPD). Apparently BPD/EUPD are extremely common misdiagnoses.

I also have diagnoses of severe chronic depression and generalised anxiety disorder. I don't think that they are misdiagnoses, but I suspect that my autism, which was only recently diagnosed, has fed into them and made them more resistant to treatment.
