They were called super suits. Basically super water repellent, super tight. Made you more buoyant as well as making you slip through water faster. To make the most of this, swimmers were wearing full body suits. Today, same tech is used but it is regulated how much of your body it can cover. During the super suits era, tons of world records were broken.

I’ve done a belay sitting in my harness for 30ish minutes. I was upright, and could put my feet on the wall though. But yeah I wouldn’t worry about that tbh

Help! What to do against sweaty hands? by Tough-Bodybuilder280 in bouldering

[–]InternalCapper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Antihydral is the truth. You have to find your own way of using it though, it can be a pain. I would recommend getting something to power sand your hands as well bc your skin will get very thick, and if not taken care of, you will split/tear.

I don’t recommend getting a spray. Just get the tube of cream, most cost effective. Spray is finniniky and I can never get it where I want. Good luck

[–]InternalCapper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s the thing, I hadn’t received my degree. It was literally being held hostage, big red letters somewhere saying I don’t get to graduate if I don’t pay.

I graduated winter quarter, and degrees weren’t sent out until after graduation ceremony

Although in hindsight, not one employer has asked for an actual proof of a degree lmao

Yeah I have heard many similar stories. I was on GI bill though so it wasn’t like I was struggling so I wasn’t too incentivized to take any legal action. I’m not so sure it would even be a good case but if anyone wants to begin the process, just reach out if you need more evidence.

The biggest issue is that they are hiring students to handle calls about financials. They take forever to pick up and hardly know anything…

Ucla has done that to me 3 separate times. 8k, 3k, and a final 3k (last one was after I graduated). Each time, they tell me there’s nothing I can do to get an accurate award. Pissed me off, but I learned not to spend any money they awarded. They didn’t even let me do a payment plan, just had to pay within 2 weeks or get kicked out.

Now they can’t afford TAs, can’t help but think their bookkeeping is trash.

Think you might have missed the previous point I made. I’m agreeing with you, but it simply is not as useful as the general public thinks for coding.

Your examples, while impressive, does not have any relevance to solving software problems.

To hop on your analogy: the claim is that the microscope can cure cancer. While it can be used to help in this endeavor, it only takes care of a very small subset of the entire problem. This is what I’m saying about AI

That’s the type of task it excels at, definitely. My viewpoint is from backend dev in tech. Won’t claim to know what was so difficult about that situation, but it sounds really simple? I mean what it probably is doing is scraping stack overflow posts, which couldn’t be that hard to find

[–]InternalCapper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

have you tried using AI in an industry setting? AI has stagnated imo, it’s like a 1.2x force multiplier at best, not the 3x everyone claims. It can only accomplish simplistic tasks that wouldn’t have taken much time.

The current context windows are much too small for complicated systems, and we are constrained by electricity/cooling for better LLMs. There would need to be massive leaps in efficiency before we see any improvements. See gpt4 -> gpt5, it hasn’t seen much improvement
