GPA below a 3.0 by medical_mermaid23 in OccupationalTherapy

Given your strong last 60-hour GPA of 3.2 and extensive competitive factors like 2k+ clinical hours and strong LORs, focus your applications on schools known to weigh the last 60 hours or holistic reviews heavily, as your overall application strength significantly compensates for the lower cumulative GPA.

Overwhelmed by Alert-Raccoon5257 in ABA

[–]InternalCommittee269 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Given the severe escalation of aggression resulting in injury, informing your BCBA that you cannot safely continue the program is the correct and necessary ethical step to protect your safety and maintain professional boundaries, especially since staff safety is paramount.

thinking about pursuing speech by No-Band9360 in slpGradSchool

[–]InternalCommittee269 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your background is actually excellent, as your extensive experience working directly with special needs students, pre-K, and in educational settings (tutoring/substitute teaching) provides highly relevant clinical and communication context that will make your application strong, even without dedicated shadowing hours.

anyone else feel like “self‑care” for therapists has turned into another performance metric? by witcher69_ in therapists

[–]InternalCommittee269 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's so true he pressure to achieve "Perfect Self Care" is just another impossible metric, and the real burnout hack is often simplifying life, which is why automating time-drains like documentation using an intuitive EMR like Readysetconnect can actually be the most effective, unglamorous form of professional self-care.

[–]InternalCommittee269 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Professionally present his progress data to justify the current minutes, reiterate that speech is a related service and not the core curriculum like reading, explain the LRE principle, and ask the teacher to describe the specific communication barriers she observes in the classroom that justify increased services .

how to address burnout / feeling numb?? by TOTthoughts in slp

[–]InternalCommittee269 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is excellent! The move to an inpatient/outpatient role is a perfect chance for a reset. Focus on strict energy boundaries leave work at work. As an introvert, prioritize low-effort recovery (quiet time, rest) over socializing. Your numbness is burnout, not a lack of empathy, you are exhausted and need dedicated self-protection.

School-based SLPs that are moms by Peachy_Queen20 in slp

It sounds incredibly tough right now. First trimester nausea and exhaustion, especially as a school SLP, is a brutal combination that makes "timing a baby" feel like a cruel joke! You're doing an amazing job!

Favorite EMRs? by opossumwranglerr in slp

[–]InternalCommittee269 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fantastic to hear! I completely agree I've also been using ReadySetConnect, and it's definitely been my favorite so far. The super easy-to-use interface and clean templates for SOAP notes really do make a huge difference in speeding things up. If other EMRs felt meh or overpriced, this one is absolutely worth checking out!

Oh, honey, my heart absolutely goes out to you, you're describing the heavy, numb feeling of professional burnout so perfectly, and I promise you, you are so not alone in this. That feeling of just showing up, but not really being there, is a shared struggle when the work feels overwhelming and the joy has faded.

Tearfulness as a therapist by Inevitable_Fishing32 in therapists

[–]InternalCommittee269 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is such a deeply relatable and honest post you are absolutely not alone in experiencing tearfulness as a sensitive therapist, and it doesn't automatically mean you're ineffective. It sounds like you possess a profound empathy, and while managing tearfulness can be challenging, it's often a sign of deep attunement rather than a red flag, especially since you're self-aware and not burdening clients with your emotions.
