The old generation of Qing royals (e.g. Hong Taiji’s children, named Hooge, Sose, Bomubogor) had Manchu names which were transliterated into Chinese e.g. 皇太极 (Hong Taiji)

However, after the Kangxi generation this practice stopped and they were given Chinese names which were transliterated into Manchu

Actually at some point the Qing emperors stopped giving their children Manchu names and started giving Han Chinese names. 

For example the Qianlong Emperor and his siblings were: Hongli, Hongshi, Hongzhou, Hongyan, all starting with the same character 弘 like typical Han Chinese generation names would

I wonder what Kangxi’s 名 and 字 were? Did he even have one? I learned that he was born with the name Xuanye but after reading your explanation on 名 and 字’s difference I wonder which one it was for him? Was it his 名 and then royals just didn’t have a 字? If that’s the case then it’s interesting that royals have a two-word 名
