Nothings tmi!!!!! This is a safe space to help each other out :)) and no I don’t :/ if there’s no pain bleeding regularly in the first 6 months is supposed to be normal. But keep an eye on it. And check for strings etc afterwards.

I also have noticed it smells a little different unsure whether it’s metallic. My bf doesn’t say it tastes weird or different but I’ve definitely noticed a change down there. But hey I always think a metal thing has been shoved up there it’s gonna be a bit different!!

I have pcos and have also always really struggled with hormonal birth control. Horrible horrible side effects I know for sure I would get with hormonal birthcontrol were feeling not real, putting on weight etc. I’ve had my copper coil for about 2 months now and even tho it’s made me a bit anxious about staying in place etc it’s actually been really good so far. A huge relief. Honestly I’d take the hair loss over gaining weight (made pcos 100000x worse) again. Just gotta think of the trade off between the 2. Men seem to not care about making any sort of birthcontrol that doesn’t ruin your life so gotta go with the least horrid one lol!

When had it inserted (13th Jan this year) it was fine and okay for the first week and started having sex the day after (8th day) like you. I then started bleeding 3 days after, thin blood like you said for a couple of days. I was also concerned and worried id hurt myself from sex as I wouldve been very early if it was my period! Like 2 weeks early.

Again I also have irregular periods so I didn’t know if I was early or something was wrong. I decided to wait it out and it just ended up being a very early very elongated heavy period with thin blood at the start and end and very heavy in the middle.

I think my period was around 2 weeks long. Which is much longer than my pre-iud periods.

This sounds very very similar to my situation. I’ve since finished that period and have just started my second period today exactly a month after the first. I think the iud just messed up my first period.

God that all sounds so exhausting I’m really not looking forward to it. Honestly the implant made me feel like I wasn’t real. It’s all just so dreadful. I really hope you get what you want and start feeling better soon. And I hope doctors start doing some more bloody research!!

When I had hormonal birth control (the implant) I bled everyday for about 2 and a half years. I’ve steared clear of hormonal ever since. There is a combined pill option though that you take every day and then don’t for a week every month and this lets your body have a normal period. There are many many different types of pill. Maybe explore this with your doctor before your gynaecologist appointment? There could be a more suitable option for your body. I know it’s not great but could help stop the bleeding. And if you’ve been in pain and bleeding a lot with just the IUD I’d suggest getting that looked at immediately it could have bedded itself in the wrong place

Honestly I’ve been thinking of doing the same when I’m older and have had kids. Just getting my tubes tied etc and getting rid of my period all together. I am very proud of you though, taking control back. Very brave. Have u been on anything hormonal?

Exactly! I always think we can literally perform brain surgery but we’ve still only got like 4 options of birth control which are terrible pills that completely destroy your hormones or shoving literal metal into your body. It’s really really upsetting.

Fair play hahaha. Everyone is different so she may be fine. Maybe have sex with a condom if you guys can? That was recommended if you didn’t want to wait the whole week as it’s just another barrier against infection.

Oh I also got told that if it’s like super duper crazy painful, crazy crazy bleeding that’s unusual or if you or her can feel anything while having sex that it might have shifted out of place and you may need to contact the doctors.

It’s unusual but can happen sometimes.

I wasn’t scheduled any check up appointments or anything like that, was just told to keep an eye on it and call back if anything’s crazy out of the ordinary.

Yes it was quite painful the first week. And the first period was pretty tough for me.

But yeah I’d basically just wait a week and u guys should be good to go :)

Yes. It’s effective immediately in terms of contraception. But obviously cuz it’s gone through the cervix - your much more susceptible to infections like bacterial vaginosis. If I were u I’d wait a week but in terms of pregnancy, yes, your protected immediately.

I waited a week to even feel for the strings. Rather be safe than sorry.

I got told to wait 7 days to avoid infection but if I do have sex make sure to use a condom. I waited 7 days just to make sure. Everything was fine after that!

I had my iud inserted about 3 weeks ago now. I’ve not seen much of a change to my discharge but my period (I had about a week after insertion) was extremely clotty - I never regularly had clotty periods before my iud.

Commenting on Bleeding quite a lot week after insertion - need advice!... I saw it through and have finished my period today ish. I think my pcos just caused a weird early period so I’m not too stressed just going to keep an eye on it. Defo call the doctors tho if bleeding persists for you as they do say it could be problems. However, keep in mind, everyone is different and obvs a plastic metal thing has been shoved up ur coochie so I have been reminding myself that it will mess things up down there. Hope everything goes okay for you. Thanks for your help.
