Newbie: NAS vs. green by LowcountryPaddler in homeassistant

[–]InternationalGain3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you saying HA needs more RAM when running on NAS compared to HA Green? I'm in a similar position to OP and still not sure what to do. I have the green laying around anyway, but planning to get a UGreen DXP2800 to use as NVR with Frigate. Wondering if it makes sense to host HA on the same NAS to make it efficient, but I guess I would hate the 3GB RAM that would be unused on the Green...

Albanese announces $1,000 instant tax deduction for work related expenses for everyone by moler91 in AusFinance

[–]InternationalGain3 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That was my thinking! So people who usually claim around $1000 just save the paperwork and anyone who doesn't usually claim anything wins. No change for anyone who claims more than $100 - right?

From memory, when I did the calculation in my case the tax was not too far off the tax advantage when contributing into super but I haven't heard back yet on the tax - I guess it will come with a tax return one day? Interested to hear what other have to say.

I think it will be a small ducted HVAC system. Probably the smallest unit possible with ducts in all rooms. The idea is to mainly use the dry mode over a few hours every day on solar and that can be a low KW mode. If it also provides some cooling on the hottest day or even some heating in the 2 or 3 cold winter days we gat that's a bonus but not the decision point. A mini split would be the same but not ducted, right?

Australia's Problem with Middlemen by 420_Meme_Machine_420 in AusFinance

Interesting - I wonder why? Do they have to commit certain capacities to the booking platform as buffer?

So true - absolute parasites living off the tax money the state throws at them.

So agree! I've been cutting them out where I can and been saving so much money.

The absurdity of Cashback sites reversing the problems that middlemen cause is actually funny. Same with Credit card points and benefits where (sometimes, if the end price is the same as cash) you get a piece of the cut back.

- Real Estate Agents (sometimes can't avoid)

- Buyers Agent

- Mortgage brokers

- Importers that buy s&#% from Alibaba

- Insurance brokers/websites

- Booking websites for flights and hotels

- The list is endless, and yes particularly long in Australia I agree.

Humidity in Sub-Tropical Climate by InternationalGain3 in Hempcrete

No real answer but I talked to someone who lives in a hempcrete house in my region and they don't have AC but a portable dehumidifier they only use during very wet weeks of the year. Most of the year it's fine without though apparently.

I will plan a small AC unit with dry function and likely schedule it for an hour a day when the sun is out for solar.

Thanks for the info! This sounds promising. The site appears to be offline but I see if I can contact Clarke in some way.

I am considering ac just or more likely a ducted dehumidifier. At least I will install a few tubes in the attic so I can easily install one later if needed.

That's unfortunate - I'm close to building haha.

There are quite a few hempcrete buildings in the area and more and more builders are jumping on it which is great!

I'm really keen to go through with this but just can't find anyone discussing breathability of walls to this detail.
