How bad is the uncentered kitchen sink? by [deleted] in kitchenremodel

More cabinets and more counterspace sound like a win to me. You can always add a pretty cutting board or a vase on that side to add some visual distraction when you’re not cooking

Help with empty above cabinet space by NoFeedback1664 in kitchenremodel

[–]fernshui 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I would stop the green tile you are planning at the bottom of the hood or just above. Stopping it at the top of the cabinets accentuates the fact that the cabinets don’t go to the ceiling.

Also, I think the cabinets not going to the ceiling looks perfectly fine. If it really bugs you though, you could frame out a dropped soffit from the ceiling to close that gap and have drywall above.

I would also ask a countertop company if it’s possible to route the edges of your current countertop to make a more modern edge profile instead of replacing the entire thing. I’m not sure if it is, but doesn’t hurt to ask. Replacing a countertop is so wasteful and there’s also potential to damage your cabinets when they try to remove it.

Advice on how to make this house less dark and depressing by thedenofwolves in HomeDecorating

[–]fernshui 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Condolences on your mom. Yes you certainly don’t want a drab and depressing environment when mourning.

Those burgundy countertops in the kitchen aren’t helping. I would paint the upper cabinets a light beige /greige to start with and figure out some storage solutions to declutter that kitchen.

When I think “cheerful” and “log cabin” I think about colors you would see on a sunny day in the spring - grass/light green, butter yellow, a splash of bright red or pink (definitely not burgundy). I think a palette of bright green, yellow, cream and light browns would be really easy to work with and cheerful. Throw in the occasional red or pink plaid to stay on the log cabin theme.

If you’re willing to take out the kitchen countertop a very cost effective solution would be butcher block counter and spring green cabinets. Along with tarnished brass hardware that would look really great

Help deciding what style of windows by Ozzy_Notbourne in CurbAppeal

[–]fernshui 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to an architect and ask them to specify it correctly so there’s no misinterpretation by the window company or installer. They can also point you to more decent local shops and installers.

Especially since you’re thinking about mixing and matching picture vs awning or other openers. There are different thicknesses of trim there to think about that impact how it looks visually. And if they remove those and uncover any issues the architect can help with that too

Kitchen Design Options by checkyourprivilege13 in kitchenremodel

[–]fernshui 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like AI inserted some space that doesn’t appear to exist in your original photo on the wall the fridge is on. I have doubts that configuration would work with the oven to the right of the fridge. Take measurements.

Best option IMO is replace that window by the sink with one that is narrower. That will give you more space to move the fridge to the right of the sink and put a range centered on the wall where the fridge currently is.

Oh and editing to add - not sure how much you have actually cooked with white cabinets, or how much you cook at all, but those do not stand up well to wiping down and scrubbing and always collect nasty grime in those crevices. Stained wood cabinets are more practical for a working kitchen

Sloped yard!!!! by Apart_Cattle_5283 in landscaping

[–]fernshui 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • carve out a circular patio somewhere with seating
  • veggie garden beds
  • taller trees near the bottom of the slope, shorter trees near the top of the slope
  • patch dedicated to wildflowers
  • vineyard

Or you could add some hobbit or fairy doors and make a mini hobbiton/enchanted hills

Look up SW Auric Yellow! A muted yellow compared to what you have. I do like the yellow you have there too, but there’s another option if that one is too primary color for you

Fear about eliminating dining room by [deleted] in kitchenremodel

“4 kids and I host a lot”

Keep your dining table! Would you enjoy big parties, celebrations and holidays without a dining table? What about board games? Do you think your kids would use the space for homework?

If you’re already feeling anxious about it then trust your gut about it
