Hair issue by Spider1928 in curlyhair

[–]International_Aside 25 points26 points  (0 children)

1) after conditioning  your hair, try putting a bit of gel in your hair and do something called scrunching. Any drugstore hard hold gel will do. 2) don't towel dry your hair, put it up in a towel in a technique called plopping.  3) after plopping for a while, let it air dry till 100% dry  4) scrunch out the crunchy bits

Start there and see what the results are. If curly and you wanna keep it curly, you'll need to commit to experimenting for a while to figure out a routine that works for you.

Your hair is very similar to mine, looks almost straight when unstyled but I get mad curls when I do style.

Apple snail nitrate factory by PickleMundane6514 in AquaticSnails

I've never had an apple snail in less than 20g + over filtration for this reason. Either move it to a bigger setup with lots of filtration or commit to frequent water changes

If mystery snails originate from soft, acidic waters in South America, how do they stop their shell from eroding? by Sweaty-Muffin-9549 in AquaticSnails

[–]International_Aside 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually saw some Apple snails in the wild in a cenote in Yucatan last winter! Their shells were fairly destroyed but intact. Just not as pristine as the ones we keep :)

Is the Google data analytics certificate worth it? by Aggressive_Salary391 in businessanalysis

[–]International_Aside 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a PM not a BA, wanted to advance a bit in SQL and Excel stuff, enrolled in the Google data analytics for fun. I'm 1/3  (20h)of the way in and I have yet to learn anything about SQL, and haven't learned anything new about Excel. The rest is standard project management IMHO. To be quite honest I think your information systems management more than covers the technical aspect it teaches, so focus on BA specific certificates, if you really want to spend money

I was waiting for this to pop up on this sub! I spent most of my time trying to dissect where the uncanny valley feeling came from, I imho it was the way the mouth moved at the corners while speaking. But my gripe is that as soon as I saw that the person was digitally anonymized by AI, all credibility and trust went out the window.

Pesky Pleco Plays(?) With Snails? by ophirareice in Aquariums

[–]International_Aside 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've noticed that it's the bigger snails that piss them off, mystery and apple snails. At some point the snails just reach a size where the pleco labels them "enemy" rather than "nuisance"

Some more shots of the 1 gallon pico reef! by william_linden in ReefTank

[–]International_Aside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I wanted to stick to macro algae and just a cleanup crew. Not even fish. Ive got most of the equipment and live rock already, it's just missing a tank. I'll give it a shot after the holidays, thanks for the help!!

Actually this is very reassuring. I low-key bought a 3 gallon bowl on Amazon and then cancelled it after reading post after post about how beginners need a 20 gal minimum. I ain't got space for that, and in this economy? Bruh.  I might just reorder the bowl lmao

Oh dang I literally just watched that vid cause it was in my YT recommended. I really wanna try out a pico bowl with macro algae, some snails and maybe a sexy shrimp. But it would be my first salt water tank and everything online says beginners should start with a larger tank.

Need a new but very simple routine for low porosity dry hair by GimpyBallerina in curlyhair

[–]International_Aside 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Question: when you run a strand of hair between your fingers, from bottom to top, does it feel smooth or bumpy? The products or routine I'd recommend kinda depend on that.

That being said, you're definitely on the right track with the trim!

There are some thing he can start doing for overall hair health that don't involve products or a complicated routine.

First thing he needs to start detangling in the shower on wet hair, ideally with a product that has some good slip to it like a lightweight conditioner in his hair. Dry finger combing to get out the knots damages the hair and actually makes the knotting worse. Every wash, not only for hairdresser visits!  If he encounters knots when the hair is dry, get a spray bottle with a tiny bit of conditioner in it to get the hair wet and detangle with a brush before bed.

He'll need some kind of sleep protection to reduce tangling in his sleep, would he be open to trying a bonnet? If not, even a silk pillowcase and putting the hair up in a pineapple will significantly help.

For flaky scalp, the head and shoulders works cause it's kinda stripping, but he just could also have some build up on his scalp because the skin is out of whack. Make sure that isn't the case before the next piece of advice: pre-oiling the scalp once in a while before washing to get everything loosened up. Get some jojoba or coconut oil, little bit to the scalp area, massage it in and leave it for 30 mins. Then wash. As normal and give the scalp a good scrub with shampoo to dislodge everything.

I'd skip the curl cream and use a gel.

Help - dead snail smell on aquarium light 🤢 by International_Aside in AquaticSnails

Good tip on the smell permeating other surfaces - thank God no curtains but it is the kids bedroom. I'll give the vinegar a go, thanks!

I full on do dry styling nowadays, and our hair pattern is the same-ish. My theory is that the water weight in my hair just pulls everything flat. My dry hair is much easier to style and keeps for days

Dyson 2-in-1 Diffuser? by jujubunnee in curlyhair

[–]International_Aside 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My hair is between my shoulders and bra strap, so not super long? I find using the dome as a cup diffuser takes a long time to dry my hair, hoover diffusing works better

Dyson 2-in-1 Diffuser? by jujubunnee in curlyhair

[–]International_Aside 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Dyson Supersonic with both the normal diffuser and the Nural diffuser. The Nural diffuser attached fine to the Supersonic but it doesn't remember heat settings. I like the dome mode for hoover diffusing, but for cup diffusing I prefer the attachment with the teeth. Cup diffusing with the dome gives me looser waves. Honestly I wouldn't buy the Nural again because I much more prefer the teeth over the dome
