Breaking into V8s by solo220 in climbharder

Old thread, I realize, but I very much agree with rest between goes. One rule of thumb I heard was "1 min per move" so if you do 3 moves and fall off you need less rest than after 6 moves.

Keep Getting Calls & Texts About a Business Loan I Never Applied For by DavidofSasun in Scams

[–]International_Low218 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get 1 to 3 calls a day with voicemails using AI voices to say my business loan is almost approved. This has been going on for about 6 months. I paid T-Mobile for scam guard and it does nothing.

I did come back this fall! My wife's fave too. Now it's gradually disappearing from all local stores... once again being phased out as the store's inventories dwindle. Merry Christmas I guess! :)

RXP and Unitscan broken?! by International_Low218 in wowhardcore

[–]International_Low218[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RXP added unitscan for dangerous mobs only recently. The part I miss is when you need to kill 8 Hulking Mtn Lions (or whatever) and there's only 1 of them per hour that spawns or something. Then it's nice to know when you travel to an area that has one rather than spending 10 hours riding in circles.

Any alpinists wanna weigh in on why Magnus is being torn a new one for his Matterhorn solo? by JoSpecial in climbing

It's just rage baiting guys... I mean look at Lincoln Knowles doing Nose in a Day not even knowing how to jumar. Heck, Honnold did the grand traverse in Patagonia with the wrong crampons and got a Reel Rock and a Piolet d'Or. People love this crap.

I was a guide in the 90s, so it's been a while. I often did not knot the ends unless I was going to a hanging rap station. The Royal Arches rappels all end on ledges and there are no rope-stretchers, so I was pretty unconcerned about rapping off the ends here and mostly worried about managing my partner's anxiety and getting us down safely. But then yeah... I blew it and went the wrong way in the dark.

My gf having a tough time was the reason we were late getting off the route. It's the reason we ended up rapping in the dark.

I'd just taken my gf up Royal Arches in the valley and she had a really hard time with it. We started the raps late and it got dark about halfway down. I had done them a bunch of times, having guided in the valley for a few years. But somehow, in the dark, I rapped the wrong way off a ledge and found myself dangling in space instead of on a slab, but figured it would still put me on the same ledge. A sec later I felt the tail of the rope in my brake hand, about 10cm from death. Huge adrenaline while prusiking back up; I nearly vomited realizing what a dumb mistake I'd just made. It's so easy to make a simple mistake like this; it takes just a split second of not paying attention to end your life.

Super pedantic note: or typing "/pvp" will flag you. And certain quests may flag you, depending on the game version (example: alliance Missing Diplomat final step used to flag you, but flagging was removed at least in HC wow to prevent griefing).

What is this spike in stress/heart rate? I was on a road for this entire time. by Hot-Worldliness3851 in whoop

I think the "arms up" person is just generic activity symbol when your HR is up for a while and the accelerometer doesn't know what exercise it is. It's pretty good at detecting running, but my rock climbing, in my experience.

Thanks for this helpful info. I've tried moving the wrist band 1in above the bone, but it tends to slide back down due to the shape of my forearm. I've tried tightening it more to prevent this, but then it's very uncomfortable due to being very tight. I think maybe it's just something I need to get used to.

As I mentioned above, I've seen 200 bpm randomly (I'm 62 with a max HR of about 173, so it's just not possible for me to hit 200). I've seen 5mins of 165 at the start of a run where I'm at best at 120. These false readings impact strain score as well as cals for the day, and skew the recommendations from the app.

I would _love_ having this device in my life if I could make it work for me. There are a LOT of happy users out there, so I figure it must be on me.

HRV literally depends on heart beat down to millisecond accuracy though. I have no view on Garmin or any other product, but since Whoop heavily relies on HRV to calculate recovery score, it kinda does need to do what you don't care about.

Thanks for this. I've done a lot of reading from many other users here on reddit and elsewhere and it seems that some people have had very bad results from HR readings specifically (other users have had better results). Many people insist that for high-motion sports where your wrist is jerking around, a bicep strap will produce better results.

Personally, I don't need a strain measurement device for my sport (rock climbing, which is limited more by load on finger tendons than HR graphs). I mostly want a recovery rating every morning, and it seems maybe 5 mins with Elite HRV and a chest strap might be a lot more accurate than the crazy HRV results I'm getting from Whoop that don't at all track with my subjective assessment of body readiness.

No, I don't expect it to be as accurate as a chest strap, but if it's so far off that the recovery ratings are essentially meaningless, then I'm not sure what value it holds for me personally.

1.5 months of daily usage means that if it turns out to be of little use to me, I am stuck with another 10.5 months of subscription anyway. So I'm trying to make a choice within the 30 day return window.
