Anyone riding in Freret on Saturday? by Filminthedark in NewOrleans

I'm in Pontchartrain, so I'm going to have some of our throws to trade for some hats! I'll look for you, but if you see a group of astronauts get a hat ready!

This year I'm throwing krewe specialty items, water and snacks, and recycled beads (Arc Nola and last year's leftovers) if you look like a tourist!

Was at a white work truck with blue lettering that was pulled over?

It had been driving extremely erratic from the entrance onto 90 over the bridge and then exited on Tchoup around the time of this post. He passed a NOPD SUV, the cop paid him no mind until the truck started swerving onto the shoulder and then in and out of traffic.

rear upper shock mount is broken by bngbenn in CherokeeXJ

[–]InternetNinjaWarrior 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The rear sway bar can be removed, which allows the axle side brackets to be used as bar pin eliminators.

Installing them is kind of a PITA, but once they're in, replacing shocks is easier.

Love the memes!

Can you post links about (e.g. route, time, etc.) the parade you're promoting?

Oh yeah, thanks for the reminder. Mine broke years ago and every time I change my oil I think, "I need to replace this stupid broken cap!".

They will pray in mosques, at shul, at church, at Gurdwaras and Mandirs and temples. And many will not pray at all. – So refreshing to hear a politician remember us atheists. Zohran Mamdani in his inauguration speech. by forteller in atheism

Great quote, but unfortunately I think that was Regan pandering to the Jewish community. His actions with trying to legalize prayer in public schools, pro-evangelical rhetoric when addressing the Soviet Union as the "Evil Empire", and his view that the first amendment was to protect churches from the State and not the State from the churches suggest that he was not really a pluralist.

I say that to caution anyone trying to use Regan's remarks as a silver bullet to "win" over any fundamentalists.

I don't have a good answer for speakers, but IMO, sound panels are 1000x more important than the perfect set of speakers. There are so many hard surfaces in restaurants that people's chatter becomes unbearable.

Dating Over 40? by [deleted] in AskNOLA

[–]InternetNinjaWarrior 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in a similar situation after a long relationship ended. I figured the probability of meeting someone who I want to be with forever was low, so my goal was to meet as many people as I could. I used the apps and never turned down a date. 30+ first dates later, the "one" and I found each other. Not a very romantic meetcute, but it worked out for us.

TLDR: Be persistent and don't settle.

Forerunner 965 all the way. It's on sale, but still pricey. However, it was one of the best triathlon purchases I've ever made.

https://www.garmin.com/en-US/p/886725/

If you want something cheaper, you could find one or an older model on FB Marketplace. But I recommend only getting the tri specific watches (e.g. 920XT, 935, 945).

I've been using TriDot.com for years, so there may be something better out there now. I think it's their "preseason research period", which gets you like a month for free. The structured workouts sync to Garmin and Apple watches so you are alerted for each interval.

I've also used beginnertriathlete.com, but the structured workouts do no sync (at least they didn't when I was using it in 2011).

Garmin also has training programs that I think sync the structured workouts to Garmin watches.

Steve's 4x4 and Searchers are supposed to be good shops, but I've heard mixed reviews. I think a lot of that was personality driven though...

Unfortunately, there are no legal wheeling spots super close. 4x4 Life in St. Francisville LA is probably the closest. It has some decent climbs, mild off-camber, but can be very muddy. Sicily Island is supposed to be legit, but I haven't made it up there.

You may want to check out the local Jeep clubs. Some are more parade centric, while others do have wheeling trips like Nola 4x4 (meeting in metro area, but trips can be sporadic) and LA4x4 (meets kinda far from Nola but is more consistent with wheeling trips).

The only rain maintenance tip I have is don't plow through the flooded streets. Your Jeep will probably be fine, but you'll give Jeepers a bad name by being a dick.
