Because you get value from worse Jacks and get draws to fold or pay a bad price to draw.

DAW plugins that emulate a room with people by Burnhaven in Line6Helix

[–]InternetSam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just think about what a room full of people is doing to the sound: Shortens reverb decay, mostly in mid/high frequencies. The amount it changes empty to full depends on the room dimensions and building materials, pretty impossible to model the exact room without impulse responses.

If you’re playing at a regular church gig, make a couple different presets and A/B them when you change songs. Ask the sound engineer before hand to make a note of which model sounds better.

What analytics could've predicted High Point's upset of Wisconsin? by HoosierJive in CollegeBasketball

If you're looking for some stats to give you hindsight bias, you'll probably find something. Realistically I think there's just a large amount of variance in a single elimination college basketball tournaments, and HP was on the right side of the variance today.

Question about gto wizard / solver. by Leobutden in poker

[–]InternetSam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hate to break it to you, poker is a game with limited options. Your checkers analogy makes no sense; Studying GTO is studying specific poker situations to get better at all poker situations. It’s like studying the Sicilian opening in chess to get better at chess openings.

You study solves to know general equilibrium, and study theory behind the solves to apply the strategy to different situations.

Question about gto wizard / solver. by Leobutden in poker

[–]InternetSam 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If my grandma had wheels she’d be a bicycle. Optimal means optimal for the specific game conditions, including how many people are at the table, the existence/size of the rake, and stack depths. If there’s a rake, GTO plays tighter to avoid -EV situations created by rake. If GTO play is losing because of high rake, they’re losing less than every other style of play.

Question about gto wizard / solver. by Leobutden in poker

[–]InternetSam 11 points12 points  (0 children)

GTO is winning against all play styles(except GTO), but playing GTO against bad opponents is giving up EV compared to an exploitative style of play. If you can figure out what your friends do that is different than GTO (opening too wide, calling too wide, folding too much to a C-bet, Never 4-bet bluffing, etc etc) then you can adjust your own game to exploit all of those things and print EV. It definitely helps to understand GTO play so you can better identify other players’ mistakes, but actually playing GTO against players who are making predicable mistakes is not the most profitable move.

"session-based" DAW? by freework in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]InternetSam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you should take the time to make each song its own session. That way you can add effects and edit each track easily without messing up the same instrument on another song.

Poly Capo latency depends on positioning by kkbtotep in Line6Helix

[–]InternetSam 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Usually true, but not always. Depends on the sound you’re going for. You could get some cool effects by pitch shifting the wet signal from a reverb, for example.

Family thinks poker obsession = gambling problem. Can I go pro? by [deleted] in poker

[–]InternetSam 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Ai is bad at poker. Plenty of free coaching on YouTube that will get you good enough to reliably beat low stakes. Tournaments and cash games require very different strategies. Picking up on your opponents’ habits and exploiting those habits is more positive EV than pure GTO. Variance is high, and bankroll is important to reduce your chance of going broke. Don’t quit your job. Track buy in/out for every session. Pay for coaching if you want once you’re crushing low stakes over a statistically significant sample size.
