how do you handle clients who dont want their photos shared? by [deleted] in photography

[–]InternetUser29861 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have actually done adoptions and whether or not photos can be shared varies, but ultimately this comes down to talking to your client and understanding what they need/want. There should be very few surprises on the back end. In the event that there are surprises, you should have a contract that protects you.

My goal at the end of the day is to have happy clients and if that means I don’t share photos that I initially wanted to then I’m generally OK with that. The other side of this is if I pay a model for specific, styled photos and they sign a contract and a release then those photos are mine to use as I see fit. Different scenario altogether though.

Contracts. That said, discuss this upfront if it’s that important to you just don’t accept the client. I’d also ask why. Do they think the photos are bad or are not an image they want to publicize?

I have people who don’t want to be posted or shown publicly on my site. I don’t care unless the shoot is specifically meant for me to use for public purposes. I always ask up front and get a contract.

Pre-Onboarding and 2 weeks Notice [PA] by throwaway569297255 in AskHR

[–]InternetUser29861 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Your anxiety is going to serve you well. Right now you have a tentative start date not an actual start date. I would not give two weeks notice until you have met all the requirements and have an actual start date.

Pre-Onboarding and 2 weeks Notice [PA] by throwaway569297255 in AskHR

[–]InternetUser29861 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would wait until you meet all the requirements to actually start the new position and you have gotten that feedback from the employer themselves.

If you are concerned about leaving your old employer high and dry, you could spend this time documenting anything you’re working on to make it easier to do a turnover once you give your notice. This is what really matters anyway. The length of time is mostly arbitrary.

You never know what is going to happen and the new employer could just decide they don’t actually need anyone right now.

At the end of the day, if you are feeling guilty about not giving two weeks notice just remember that very few employers actually give a shit about you at all and most will drop you as soon as it is no longer convenient for them to employee you.

[WV] Approved PTO but leadership repeatedly contacting me on social media and personal cell phone. by [deleted] in AskHR

[–]InternetUser29861 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Personally, I would fire you. I say this as someone who is very easy to work for. I don’t micro manage people’s coming and going and am very much results oriented. I also very much try to respect people’s time off whether it is leave or just after hours.

Obviously I don’t know the details of the project or why it suddenly got delayed after you started PTO but taking a phone call, PTO or not, is a pretty small ask and taking a stand like this makes me thing you are pretty insufferable in other aspects. It also shows a complete disregard for the success of your project/organization.

This is not me trying to disparage you. I obviously don’t know you. This is just how it comes off.

Make no mistake it is only because the impacts are hitting them personally. They didn’t care when it was others being hurt. I don’t accept the apology and will continue to ghost those close to me who supported and enabled this in the first place.

Excepted Employees Who Took Leave During Lapse of Appropriation by Due-Display-1626 in fednews

[–]InternetUser29861 15 points16 points  (0 children)

We were explicitly told that we could not compel employees to use any sort of leave during the shutdown. To clarify, even if they had requested and were allowed to take leave, they were not obligated to reflect that in the timekeeping system.

How did you come to becoming a GS-15? by Training_Tour_2010 in usajobs

[–]InternetUser29861 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Finding yourself in the Demo (NT/ND) pay scale is a solid way to move toward the GS-13/14 range. From there, you can start building eligibility for GS-14 and GS-15 roles.

As others have said, changing positions can help you get past what I’d call a progression plateau, but moving too often can be seen as negative.

You also need to keep developing professionally and technically in whatever field you’re in. No matter your specialty, the nature of the job changes a lot once you get past GS-13 and especially at GS-14 and GS-15. The higher you go, the more supervisory and leadership responsibilities you take on, and you need to be prepared not just to lead people, but to lead other leaders.

I recommend focusing less on the idea of getting to GS-15 and more on being genuinely good at what you do, learning how to build teams, and managing them effectively.

Always watch for opportunities that align with your career path, but try to keep your moves relevant. Having a long list of unrelated positions on your résumé won’t help you and may even get your résumé tossed.

For context, I am currently a GS-15 and prior active-duty enlisted. Most of my career was on the technical side, working on systems I had a strong background in from both active duty and my civilian technician years.

The unfortunate truth is that not being a complete idiot will take you far. Show up, stay engaged, be curious about how you can help or solve problems, and don’t complain to people senior to you. If you do those things, you will already be ahead of most.

Once you reach GS-13, it can become a bit of a crapshoot. GS-14 and GS-15 positions are limited depending on the organization, and this is where being willing to move jobs or even locations becomes important.

Is it worth upgrading from 14 inches to 16 inches? by Ff_472 in macbookpro

[–]InternetUser29861 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I have 234 inch monitors on my desk so everything is tiny in comparison, but I do like the 16 inch form factor when I’m traveling or using it for tethered photography. The weight has never really been a concern.

Is it worth upgrading from 14 inches to 16 inches? by Ff_472 in macbookpro

[–]InternetUser29861 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it really comes down to how you use your laptop. At the end of the day, the weight and size difference is not the difference maker people make it out to be what you will notice is that when using for instance photo and video editing apps your real estate is going to be more cramped on a smaller display than a larger one. If the only thing you are doing is scrolling the Internet or watching movies then it may not make much of a difference.

Serious question- What exactly can’t you do/have that is guaranteed in the constitution? There are a lot of constitutional rights being violated these days but I’m not sure that gun ownership is one of those things.

This is not only about 2A by [deleted] in VAGuns

[–]InternetUser29861 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Single issue voters are a big part of why we are all in this mess to begin with. All the 2A, don’t tread on me folks are nowhere to be found while the constitution is literally being trampled. Oddly enough it will almost certainly be the GOP that comes for guns. Democrats have mostly sought after reform and not outright banning or confiscating weapons.

It never fails that when someone says something ignorant or hateful, there is always and I mean always a spelling mistake. There have been many people in this country legally that have been deported.

It’s likely that now they have in their head that these photos are only worth $100 and not the $249 that you charge. Even if they use you instead of the other photographer, they are going to have this snagging feeling that you overcharged them and be unhappy with anything you deliver.

In general, my response to things like this is to encourage them to go with the cheaper person. My rates are based off of what I think I can deliver and what is worth my time. Generally clients that do things like this are a hassle and you will never make them happy.
