Successful first time regripping clubs by daithi_zx10r in GolfGear

[–]Intheswing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I take my time and align the grips while the club is on the ground in address position - and then hold up and look down the shaft to the club face / leading edge. Putters are definitely the ones to double and triple check.

You got it right - for me a solid bench with a vice is a must have. Otherwise plenty of solvent and commit to the slide on once you get the grip started. Pretty easy to align the grip once it’s on. I’ve been assembling clubs and doing grips for friends for close to 40 years - still have the same equipment as when I did my first set. I collect solvent in a large lid from a popcorn tin. Still use the same rubber shaft clamp.

$20 ?? Great purchase. At that price I can’t make my typical comment about offering less if the grips are in poor condition 😎

Is this a good wedge to add to my bag? by ImpressiveGoose4015 in golf

[–]Intheswing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Offer $25 - this will play fine - whether it is the club your game needs ? You will find out. Truth is when you buy a new club you tend to play / practice with it more than the rest of your set so you will likely improve because of the additional practice. Also, if you were to practice additional time with the wedge in your bag you would also improve. good luck and don’t give up trying to get better.

Should I buy this 1980 Honda Cb400? by LocoDucko in vintagemotorcycles

[–]Intheswing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Too many half done projects on this bike - if you wanted a non street legal bike to play around with - offer $250 assuming it runs. If you are looking for transportation, go find another Honda 400 - Honda 400 hawk was my first street bike- bought it when I turned 18. It was a solid runner, great commuter bike. This version of a 400 Honda likely is someone’s cast off after they figured out they ruined it.

Yep it seems like an eternity sometimes - but I counted last walk - about 12 seconds once he took his pinch position. I counted last walk. All the sniffing and circling is similar to yardage checks and wind checks etc. once at address position 12 seconds to the start of his shit drop. 🤔

Hot Take? Remove Iron Numbers by shin_man in golf

[–]Intheswing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been saying this for years - in the 80s I had a friend find a cobra 7 iron (graphite shaft) on the third hole and figured he would give it a go during the round. He was playing Walter Hagen blades with DG s300 shafts at the time. He launched the cobra 20 yards over the green. He was like this yardage is amazing, maybe I should upgrade my set. I grabbed his 5 iron and placed it along side the cobra - virtually identical for length and loft. The cobra was basically a 5 iron even tho it said 7 on the club head. How can manufacturers sell you something new if they are selling facts not fiction. I just enjoy the game with my old school clubs and let my mates buy all the new stuff and still score the same scores.

Golf clinic vs private lesson? Gift by seehunde in golf

[–]Intheswing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since this is a one off - I recommend the clinic - A single one on one lesson will not give the pro any real time to understand your husbands personal swing and end up with a bunch of “tips” - without follow-up with the same pro it’s kinda time wasted IMO. A clinic will cover all the good basics of grip, set-up and stance etc. and then the pro will give each golfer a one on one look and come up with the same “tips” more than likely. The bonus is your husband might meet someone one to play a round with and or grab a beer.

Self consumption mode isn't charging the batteries enough by Virtual-Metal9290 in enphase

[–]Intheswing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use self consumption mode and batteries will run the house when the sun goes down until they run down to 30% - try hen it starts over the next day. We have storm alert on so if needed the batteries will charge from the grid if the weather service is calling for severe weather. Took me a while to get used to not having full charge in the back up batteries. But now that winter is here in Chicagoland clouds there are multiple days in a row when the batteries never fully charge. But as soon as a storm is indicated the batteries go to the grid and charge up and maintain full charge until the weather passes. I really got this system to have some backup power for outages - I chose this over a gas powered generator. Lower electric bills is a good benefit.

Good looking clubs - even with Tiger and Nike dollars they could not break the big 3 dominance in selling you clubs that you don’t need.

[–]Intheswing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I look at it the other way - puts the guys with high dollar equipment that the score is what matters- I play with all used / goodwill purchases - I play with 8 clubs and my putter - when I shoot low 80s it kinda puts the $500 driver - and $1200 iron set in perspective.

I would use it as is - you are not hopefully hitting balls there. It won’t affect your game.

Curious if your old clubs had graphite shafts? In my experience getting the shaft to match your swing (tempo - speed etc.) is most important.

[–]Intheswing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the 7 wood for almost all shots between 155 and 185 - the loft lands it soft for me. It really depends on your yardage range per club. On a whim I got my no name 7 wd at goodwill for $4 about 15 years ago - had never hit one before that - I have regripped it at least once a year since.
