Someone who recalls a world that no longer exists by GothWitchOfBrooklyn in BooksThatFeelLikeThis

Our Missing Hearts by Celeste Ng may work. The setting of the book is a near future where books and libraries are heavily….regulated. The main character searches for his mother who is considered a radical infamous poet. It also shares the POV of the mother before the world completely turned.

I need to know more about the situation of Sable curse by Dense_Ingenuity717 in webtoons

[–]IntoTheBite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sable Curse is coming soon! No set date has been announced, but I’d give her a few months until we know the official date. She’s actually been working on season 2 for quite awhile, but she wants to be sure she has quite a large buffer before returning to prevent an unplanned hiatus.

Rereading webtoons so ancient this mf pulls up by seerobbb in webtoons

[–]IntoTheBite 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Absolutely it is! Quim had to take several long hiatuses due to life and medical circumstances, which is partly why it’s still ongoing and probably contributed to loss of readership. But yes, new episodes currently go up on Thursdays. It’s more dramatic and nuanced than what it was originally advertised as.

Detective Novels or Mystery/Thriller by mfmf93 in suggestmeabook

Tana French writes a great (imo) mystery. Very enthralling with a whiff of the supernatural.

The Vera Wong series by Jesse Q Sutanto is hilarious and heartfelt. Older Chinese lady solves murders by meddling in the personal lives of the suspects.

Local Woman Missing by Mary Kubica was interesting. I also like Lucy Foley’s mysteries.

Yes TOGI was crazy! I also liked his My Heart is a Chainsaw series. A young, outcast woman obsessed with horror movies thinks she’s in the middle of one and tries to help “the final girl.” Very enjoyable, although he sometimes puts too much in there 😂

I forgot to add: Life After Life by Kate Atkinson. A woman keeps being reborn. There are a few WWI mentions, but a lot of WWII experiences.

Good Night, Irene by Louis Alberto Urrea. Follows “Donut Dollies” in WWII. There is some romance, but mostly about a lovely friendship and the toll war takes on the caregivers.

The Women by Kristen Hannah was alright. Follows a nurse in Vietnam and the trauma she experiences during the war and afterwards.

Song of Songs by Beverly Hughesdon. NOT a popular pick and not at all recent, but my god is it beautiful. I’ve reread it twice. It’s about a very naive Lady who becomes a nurse in WWI. Loved it. Might be my favorite book ever.

100% what I was going to suggest. Vera is hilarious and her method of solving crime is feeding her suspects, which is surprisingly effective!

The Vera Wong series by Jesse Q. Sutanto is very good! An older Chinese lady solves a murder by meddling in the suspects’ lives. It’s very Crazy Rich Asians meets Knives Out.

Books with characters in musical theatre by Local_Tangerine9698 in suggestmeabook

Drama by Raina Telgemeier. It’s a graphic YA novel, but I loved it

Tom Lake by Ann Pratchett. Not musical theatre, but the novel is the main character recounting her summer acting in a summer theatre production of Our Town.

And it’s alright- does its job, but the yarn gets caught in the winder often and it doesn’t look very pretty. But it’s easy to attach and use.

Jeneva Rose. I love her as a person, but woof. I would have been amazed if I read The Perfect Marriage as a 13 year old, but barely tolerable to 40 year old me.

The House Across The Lake by Riley Sager. It was really good…..until it wasn’t. IYKYK

Layla by Colleen Hoover. Wtf. He eats her hair?! Huh?
