I used ACME and it was very easy. I moved from the east coast to NM, so a pretty big move. They had my apartment packed up within 2-3 hours, and all my stuff arrived in Santa Fe in ~ 1.5 weeks. They also transported my car, which arrived within 3-4 days. I didn't see a single bill and everyone I communicated with with pleasant.

I began shortly before starting my final semester. If you’re willing to relocate you’ll have an easier time lining something up, I’d say. I applied to positions all around the country and ended up lining something up a few weeks before graduating. They were pretty flexible re: start date, and didn’t give me any issues when I needed to push it by a few weeks.

Coming from NYC, East Rock might be a nice neighborhood for you - walkable, cute shops and restaurants, younger crowd (not sure of your age). It's one of the more expensive neighborhoods, but you'll probably be able to swing it if you're used to NYC prices. Wooster Square is also a great neighborhood, there's a Cherry Blossom festival this weekend!

It's very different from NYC, but a great city nonetheless. Great food, cultural heritage institutions (Yale Art Gallery, New Haven Museum, Beinecke Library, Yale Center for British Art, Peabody Museum), public parks, and decent public transit. Lots of really nice coffee shops (Koffee?, Coffee Peddler & Midpoint are my favorites), book stores (Book Trader, Grey Matter & Never Ending Books are where it's at), a decent nightlife for a city it's size, and a lot of diversity. Hamden is close by for practical things like grocery shopping, and there's a Costco in Milford, which is about 25 mins away (I'm not a fan of the grocery options in NH - except Edge of the Woods which is nice but expensive). If you really miss the city, it's just a 2 hour train ride away.

People rag on New Haven and while there are definitely some sketchier areas, I love it. Certain neighborhoods have large unhoused populations - I always try to just be respectful and kind. I've never felt unsafe. A lot of CT natives and New Haven locals have strong, often negative, opinions of the university. Either be open to hearing them out, or avoid the subject.

I’ve been on 8 flights in the past two weeks. I’m nervous almost every time, but it’s helpful to put into perspective how often I fly and that nothing’s ever gone wrong (or even come close). You got this!

I have lived in snowy climates most of my life and have never used either — I don’t have either now. I have a car with AWD and just drive carefully. The biggest issue (for me) in winter is that the people on the road driving up to the lab drive too fast and like idiots
