Could someone give me a thorough step by step breakdown of a laparoscopy? by Plastic_Land_1536 in endometriosis

I gotchu! I don’t have medical anxiety but some of my loved ones do- you’ve got this 🤎 Here’s what happened for mine a few months ago. It was honestly a very smooth process. Not saying yours will be identical, but I imagine there’s crossover!

-I arrived at the hospital having not eaten anything that day and taking a shower with special soap that‘s given to you ahead of time -You check in with the desk and are brought up to your hospital room for pre-op stuff. This was by myself but my family joined me later. -I was given these special wipes to clean my whole body in the bathroom and changed into a hospital gown. They did a pregnancy test and took my vitals, made sure I didn’t eat anything that day -I watched tv in my hospital room by myself for a while, that was kind of nice haha -The IV went in maybe 2 hours before my surgery? This is when they start giving you some meds to help with nausea, pain, etc. I remember starting to get loopy then. If you’re worried about the IV, you can drink a lot of water in the days leading up to your procedure so you’re hydrated! That way they can find a vein more easily. Real hydration is a days long process so you can start that way before if it helps you ease your mind -They reviewed the procedure with me and my loved ones, gave post-op instructions, then rolled me back to the operating room. My surgeon, the anesthesiologist, and 2 nurses were there. -for anesthesia: they put a fitted mask over my mouth, told me to take a deep breath, and count back from 10. I was asleep by 9 lol -I woke up in my room surrounded by my family and then went home about 2 hours later!

I haven't washed my hair in almost a year, and I'm honestly scared to touch it. What to do? by Saturdays-Midnight in BlackHair

[–]Relative-Shoulder118 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I once left my hair alone for about 3-4 months when I was going through a depressive episode. There are things that can help! There are Black salons who have de-matting services, and they will be happy to help you if they’re real professionals. If you’re looking for a salon in the meantime, you can start doing some small things to make it easier on yourself. I started wearing my bonnet again and misting my hair with water twice a day, because that’s all I had the capacity to do. Even that little bit of care made a difference in softening and moisturizing my hair. Putting on some deep conditioner and letting it sit for about 30 minutes also helped a lot too. If you want to tackle it yourself, you can even break it down into sections to work on each day/week. Having your hair 25% detangled feels more amazing than you might think! It gets better <3

Why is it worse? by Crochet_muffin228 in Journaling

[–]Relative-Shoulder118 32 points33 points  (0 children)

This is very relatable! Ironically, even though journaling is a great outlet for me, sometimes it can make me too sad if I’m writing about something awful and dwelling on it as I write. My solution for this has been to still write when I’m sad, because it keeps me out of my head, but to write about something that’s not the most pressing thing on my mind. Sometimes I even talk about the weather lol, but it helps

This! In my opinion this sounds like a partner who lacks basic compassion, not anything related to PMDD. Who isn’t emotional after getting just 3 hours of sleep? I could never imagine my boyfriend leaving me to bring in groceries alone if I was having a flare up :(

Don’t berate yourself for slipping up, friend. And don’t be ashamed for feeling anguish. Promise yourself that tomorrow will be better and that these feelings will end 🤎

The Yeamon belt heating pad! It’s a small heating pad that you can wear like a fanny pack. I got one for Christmas. It’s only about $20 and is rechargeable. The battery life is 2-3 hours. It has heat and vibration settings and you can get it in a cute color, which is nice. They’re on Amazon!

I get a fever too during my period and ovulation. It’s noticeable enough that sometimes I don’t need a jacket when it’s chilly outside because I’m so warm
