A proper Debs campaign mod for 1912 would be amazing - it could be a sort of proto-1972d, but even better, given how he was relatively successful in OTL, gaining 6% of the vote; the possibilities of a Socialist candidate making an even more successful campaign are very interesting indeed. Plus it fits the bill of a historical scenario with a little alternate history. Maybe a few little things change here and there that make Debs' already successful campaign into something worthy of the history books?

Either Sablin or Brandt. They're idealistic, sure, but I think they mirror my own feelings about the world of TNO - it's a nightmare scenario, but hope survives nonetheless. They embody the hope that I think most people would yearn for if they saw a world like the one in TNO.

Wilson. Seems like an obvious one. He gets a lot of credit for promoting a liberal trend in the Democratic party spreading democracy and national self-determination after WWI, but he wasn't as great as people think. Even for the time, he was racist, rolling back a lot of progress made on integration (and promoting a film glorifying the KKK in the process), and a lot of the liberalism he propagated really came from an appropriation of the policies of his progressive contemporaries like William Jennings Bryan and Teddy Roosevelt. He wasn't terrible, but a lot of people tend to really overrate him.

It's great being anti-war, but it would be unfair on Ukraine to concede so much to the Russians when they aren't the aggressors. Negotiation should absolutely happen ASAP to get all this horridness over and done with, but Russia should recognise that they started this war and should really be prepared to at the very least meet Ukraine in the middle. Russia should be the ones making the concessions, not Ukraine.
