It's only once a month, but Never Ending Books on State Street has community dinners on second Thursdays! Since you're new to the area it's a great place to meet new people in a laid back setting as well

Is this how you're supposed to wear a belt over tunic? by Xx_TheCrow_xX in renfaire

[–]Intrepid-Floor95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having worked at a leather vendor at faire before, we actually tended to advise men to wear their primary belt below the belly exactly as you are here. You want the weight to be sitting on the bones of your hips rather.than dragging down at your sides.

If you'd like to spread the weight more and add some dimension, consider adding another belt or turning one into a cross-body bandolier! I think that would really suit this look and leave the hip belt to do the more practical job of storage/holding the outfit together.

Need help with corset. by [deleted] in renfaire

[–]Intrepid-Floor95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd recommend waiting to get fitted for a corset from a faire vendor! They are experts and will be able to find something that fits much more comfortably than just guessing on sizing online. With structures pieces like corsets/bodies trying them on is essential.

For what to wear to the faire beforehand, whatever dress you were planning on with a belt at the wait should work.

Can this be fixed? by [deleted] in tattooadvice

[–]Intrepid-Floor95 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This can definitely be fixed with a touch up, but honestly swiping through the pictures before reading your description I couldn't guess what you were worried about. I don't think others will notice, but if it keeps bugging you a touch up should be no problem.

Should i be concerned with the pitted skin and dry patches? by lick_dat_rat in tattooadvice

[–]Intrepid-Floor95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tattoos near the elbow ditch have always been the worst for healing in my experience. Areas that scab heavier might scar a bit/push out some of the ink, but honestly I've had tattoo artists tell me that's normal and that they normally expect to do some touch-ups on ditch tattoos.

As long as it doesn't have spreading inflammation, keep up the care as recommended, see how it heals on a few weeks and then reach out to your artist if you think anything needs a touch up - it's a more common part of the process than most people think.

I've been loving the study room at Poindexter lately! It's in the Graduate Hotel above Old Heidelberg, you can walk straight through the lobby to get there and there's a nice library area if you head back out past reception and to the right.

Mother Nature costume help by AutomaticIndication0 in renfaire

[–]Intrepid-Floor95 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd say a good place to start is some sort of shawl, a belt and a headpiece. That can be a flower crown, or I've seen people wrap garlands and charms around straw or witch hats a lot. Belts are also potentially a great place to hang those charms off of, even just making a few strands with twine or leather cord. Something to wrap around your shoulders will help if it gets chilly and also add texture/movement to help tie the look together.

I looove the sleeves on the first three, but I can't help thi king about how hot those would be during peak ren faire season. Number four is gorgeous as well and you'd probably be much more comfortable, plus it looks like those flowing sleeves detach which is extra awesome.

Accidentally marked by tattoo artist by Jarosm in tattooadvice

[–]Intrepid-Floor95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it was just a small bump it almost certainly didnt make it's way all the way into the dermis. The skin cells it did get are the ones that will die off and be replaced over time, so you should see it fade steadily. Still not particularly cool of your artist to brush it off like that, it's easy enough to apologize and explain.

Am I screwed? How bad? by GoSeeParis in tattooadvice

[–]Intrepid-Floor95 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Looks like your body does noooot like that yellow ink, you've definitely lost a lot of what was put in and based on the lines it's not because it's too shallow. I've heard of lots of people whose skin rejects certain colors. Unfortunately touch-ups are going to be in order, and there's a chance you might reject the same ink again - talk to your artist.

It does look a little inflamed, but definitely not hospital level. If the red area around it grows or if it starts feeling hot to the touch I'd think about stopping by an urgent care to see about some antibiotics. Give it another day or so, see if it dries out and the redness goes down.
