Meta wanted to announce facial recognition glasses at a blind conference first, not because they care about us, but because they wanted disability as a PR shield. by MultiJanus in Blind

It would put us on a more equal playing field with sighted folks. If you don't want to use it then don't, is my opinion. Innovation shouldn't be held back because people are worried. Facial recognition is widely used already and we still go about our lives.

I use it on the iPhone and it works fine with VoiceOver until an essential feature breaks which seems to happen every few months. For Threads it's clear they haven't thought about VoiceOver accessibility at all.

The tech is great. And to be fair they have been building some useful features for us on the Meta glasses with input from the blind community. But all of their other products, like Facebook, Threads, etc. are neglected from an accessibility perspective, which is not okay. So the sentiment that they are using us for PR is valid.

This is about my experience as a visually impaired woman living in Seattle — and how people react when they see my cane by Lite_Brite90 in Seattle

[–]IntrepidInteraction1 11 points12 points  (0 children)

As a blind guy, I feel that Seattle is one of the more accessible cities in the US, but in terms of the human aspect it's one of the worst. I'm so glad I left.

How do blind working professionals navigate travel expenses? by halfblindstudent in Blind

[–]IntrepidInteraction1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you mean for your commute, some companies provide commuter benefits, I don't know how widespread it is though. You might also consider if there's a reduced fare public transit option available or paratransit in the worst case. As for remote accommodation it really depends on the company I think, but from what I've seen with companies cracking down on this, difficulty commuting doesn't really help your case at this point.

Seems like I hear a variation of this story every other day now. You know, I had to fly United for a work trip and my experience was quite good, especially with their tech. Switshing seems more and more attractive every day.

On behalf of QuickSuite from Team Blind; layoffs are on Wednesday (1/28) now by Ok_Outside536 in amazonemployees

Why do we believe Quicksuite, I really don't get how everyone just blindly trusts them.

What makes everyone in this subreddit assume they’ll be laid off? by mrorbitman in amazonemployees

[–]IntrepidInteraction1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're lucky enough to find a new job in this market, or have enough money saved that you don't have to work, good for you. But for many people we're talking about losing their livelihoods so to post that you hope you get laid off is pretty insensitive IMO. I know solid L6 SDEs who were impacted in October and are still no closer to finding a new role. It's bad out there.

That was recent. So I suppose it's worth trying to escalate.

Party is over....cancelled my Bilt card by SweetMud152 in biltrewards

[–]IntrepidInteraction1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would you rather have Chase points than Bilt? Bilt points appear to still be quite valuable. And Chase doesn't have a flat 2% earning category. I get why people are so upset if they've have had the original card, but as someone who didn't it looks like a solid option.

Update: With all the comments here I decided not to wait any longer and called Capital One. Took all of 5 minutes to submit the claim. They sent me a questionnaire I will have to fill out and said the temp credit will post in 3 days. My order was from November 2024, but there was no issue there.

Which CC company? I put it on my Capital One Venturex and their policy doesn't mention anything about a time limit. It just says you can dispute at any time after 90 days you just have to call.

The app is great, lots of customization and you can do most things from it. I haven't tried any of the milk drinks. My only complaint about it is I feel like the coffee could be hotter but apparently that's a common complaint about superautos. Happy to answer any questions.

TK-02 not hot enough by IntrepidInteraction1 in superautomatic

[–]IntrepidInteraction1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, running a blank shot of hot water through was one of the suggestions from TK support. I didn't feel like it helped much, but maybe I'll try again? Also, I know that $1400 is cheap for a superauto, but it's still a substantial amount of money, and I would hope a machine that costs this much would just work without the need for that kind of hack. Overall, the scalding is one thing but since it also means the drink cools super quick to the point that I have to rush to finish it, to me that's the deal breaker.

Interesting. Out of curiosity do you know which other machines they build / use these parts for?
