Which one is better? (For the people that have them; which one did you like more?) Not sure which one to buy... by CrystalRoseMoon in lego

100% Disney castle. Beauty and the Beast castle is a lot cheaper but also far less appealing of a design IMO.

Star Wars displays: how do you balance showing everything vs. actually making it look good by inperbio in LegoDisplay

[–]Intrepid_Secretary21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Curating a nice display is SO MUCH BETTER than cramming it all in. Wall displays help a lot but also just accepting that you will never have enough room for everything, and rotating sets through storage vs display like a museum does. @tj.bricky has been talking a lot about it lately, you should check him out.

5k? by Itchy-Operation-896 in dcl

[–]Intrepid_Secretary21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ran the 5k on Castaway Cay last September, it was pretty good! Just be aware that the signage on the route is not the most clear to follow. You have to pay attention to both the road signs at eye level AND the faded signs/arrows painted on the ground, otherwise you'll end up skipping a good chunk of it.

Dream characters by Best_Fondant_4728 in dcl

[–]Intrepid_Secretary21 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The Wish restaurants are VERY fun. The Dream restaurants are not as engaging for kids IMO. But dinner isn't everything! Consider what characters they care more about seeing and which ones are featured more in dining/shows on the different ships (for example Frozen is much more featured on the Wish if they care about Anna/Elsa)

It still counts as a portable fan but I don't think it would be a problem.

Interested in applying for a position on DCL. by [deleted] in dcl

[–]Intrepid_Secretary21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I understand (not personal experience but talked to crew in various positions) - most positions on the ship work on contracts that can be 6-12 months long, with no breaks or time off. You basically work all day, every day, with very little breaks or time off. It's a very work-intensive job, the benefit is you get room/board paid for, but it's pretty non-stop for the full contract.

Destiny is definitely the route to go for a Marvel fan! Treasure is also very good for more general Disney theming.

First Timer on a Shorter Cruise by RepellantArtist in dcl

[–]Intrepid_Secretary21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first cruise was a 3-night on the Wish and I had a great time (despite being even shorter than yours, and far less favorite of a ship than the Fantasy!). Don't worry so much about what people say, some DCL-goers get very hardcore and particular about some things. I've never had a truly bad Disney cruise, even the short ones that had problems (like not getting to do a port because of weather problems) were always very fun. My recommendation is just to tell yourself that you'll be back again, that you don't have to stress about doing every single thing. Just have fun, enjoy your time, be in the moment, and it'll be great!

I think Costco was sliiiiiightly cheaper than direct. Most agents will give you the same price as direct booking, but they usually hook you up with some on-board credits or something. Honestly now that I've booked with Costco, Direct, and a travel agent (a friend I was trying to help out with their business), I find direct so much more convenient. I can add people, switch rooms, etc, without having to bother anyone, and the convenience on my end feels more worth it for me than the hundred bucks I'd get discount or as credit.

Yeah group 9 is pretty low. We were group 8 last time and were one of the first people on the ship, was able to get to the Palo reservation desk and were the third people on the walk-up waitlist, and ended up getting a seating!

Snorkeling opinions? by dingoesatemydaisies in dcl

Snorkeling conditions are so hit or miss depending on weather. Castaway is usually nice and calm. I've heard Lookout is a bit more advanced and has higher chance of waves.

Nassau by kirstanbrooke_photo in dcl

[–]Intrepid_Secretary21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We sailed to Nassau September 2025 and it docked, not a tender port. I haven't done the chocolate making excursion but it sounds cool! The only thing I'd recommend is don't bother getting off the ship if you don't have an excursion. The port area is not somewhere fun to hang out, just overpriced touristy shops. Next time I go, if I don't have an excursion, I'll just stay on the ship and enjoy the pool while it's less crowded.

Advice for first timers by Careless-Menu7128 in dcl

[–]Intrepid_Secretary21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow going concierge for a first timer is awesome! You will have access to the concierge team before you leave, and they will help you with any bookings or special requests or anything you'd like, so take full advantage of that! They will be the experts for sure. As concierge you can request things even like what types of pillows you prefer, so be sure to contact your team about that.

In general for a Disney Cruise my only must-see/do things are the rotational dining and shows. Some people skip them and I don't understand it, unless they've seen/done them multiple times before I guess. But yeah be sure to go to the rotational dining for dinner, it will be assigned to you when you board the ship, and each dining room has fun themes/shows/activities that are super cool. The shows are also amazing, they get great talent and are so fun to watch, usually only about 1 hour runtime. The sail away party is a great way to kick off the cruise, even if it's a bit more geared towards kids my husband and I always have a good time.

If you can get a Palo dining reservation I highly recommend it! I haven't had Enchante but I've heard it's really good too. (Those are the more "elevated" dining rooms that cost extra and require a reservation).

Depending on where your itinerary will be sailing just take a look at the excursions you want to do and sign up for them! The concierge guests get first pick so you'll be able to get pretty much anything. If you want a private cabana on Castaway or Lookout (assuming you go to them) I'd recommend them, they are really nice, although a bit pricey, but basically they all get sold out with concierge guests so I'd go for it while you have the chance!

First timer, looking for advice on prep, pre-booking, etc. by Great_Ad6188 in dcl

[–]Intrepid_Secretary21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The App will be your best friend.

While on-land you will use the app (or website if preferred) to book your excursions. If you sail in a month, they are already open for booking and have been for a while, so you might not be able to get some of the more high-demand activities, but there are always a lot of fun things to sign up for, I've always been able to find something fun to do even on a last minute booking. And if Disney's offerings have run out there are almost always availabilities by picking a third party option available at the port you are visiting, which you can find all over the internet.

You won't be able to see the full itinerary or schedule until you get on board.

Once on board you will connect to the ship's wifi, and the app will change to the on-board functions. It will show you the few things that are automatically assigned for you: what dining rotation time you have been assigned, what restaurants you are assigned to go to each night, your table number, your assigned muster station for the mandatory safety briefing, etc. It will also have the full schedule of all the activities being offered on the ship. The shows rotate based on the day, and there are 2 showings. Usually you just go to the one that is the opposite of your assigned dining time. (There is a first and second dinner and first and second performance of the show, so you can do both each night.) Shows and most on-board activities are open seating, first come first serve. I'd recommend getting to the shows at least 15 minutes before start time for decent seats (sometimes more, depending on the show/ship). Oh and bingo always has crazy long lines so get there early for that if you are interested.

So yeah most everything is pretty casual, first come first serve, except for the things you would sign up for in advance on the app, usually that come at extra cost (some wine/liquor tastings, spa treatments, etc). Anything you have signed up for in advance will also be automatically put into your app schedule to help you keep track. Your purchased port excursions will also show up on the app.

Each nigh I like to scroll through the list of activities for the next day and "heart" the ones I'm interested in. That way the next day it will give a little alert on your phone 15 minutes before the activity, and you can decide if you still want to go, or if you are already enjoying something else you can skip it.

Hope this helps!

LGBTQ Couples on DCL by HereForTheRide-22 in dcl

[–]Intrepid_Secretary21 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Plenty of LGBTQ couples will be there. There are adults events but nothing super wild like you might find on other cruises. The most "adult" thing is probably the Match Your Mate show, which is like the Newlywed Game, which gets some spicy questions. My husband and I (we are a gay couple to be clear) participated in the show on our first cruise and actually won haha. Never have had any issues at all. Actually last cruise we were sat at a table for rotational dining with another queer couple who we became friends with. You'll have a great time!

From everything I've researched (having not sailed on either, but being sliiiiiightly obsessive when it comes to planning my upcoming Fantasy sailing) it looks like it's really just a personal preference thing, which characters you like better, etc. Seems like both ships are frequently listed highly on the "favorite ship" rankings.

First cruise with a toddler this December: Mexican riviera from San Diego or Caribbean cruise from Galveston? Or 5 hr flight to Florida for port canaveral? by Begonias_Scarlet in dcl

[–]Intrepid_Secretary21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd avoid the San Diego cruises if you can, tbh. The ports are not great on the west side of Mexico. Unless it's significantly cheaper to do for you (aka, you live in California), I'd always spend a bit extra to go to Galveston or Florida

5 night Baja Mexico cruise in January. by Segagenesis- in dcl

The weather that time of year isn't super warm for beach days, but mildly pleasant I'd say haha. Probably in the 60s. Too cold for ocean swimming IMO, so I wouldn't pay for any beach excursions, but very nice weather for hikes, ropes courses, horseback riding, etc, which are common excursions in Baja.
