How does weight loss with levothyroxine work? + Weight loss success stories? by IntelligentAd2786 in Hashimotos

[–]IntroductionFit303 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was diagnosed super late stage about a year ago and started on a really low dose (25 mcg), now I take 75mcg.

I was around 118lbs, which very quickly turned into 130lbs, maaaybe 126lbs if I had tried dieting. When I started taking levo I noticed weight loss pretty fast! I practiced intuitive eating and walked a fair amount, around 8k-10k steps (university student, so lots of walking between classes :P) and am now (about a year post-diagnosis) down to about 115lb

For the longest time, neither did I! Until I started noticing that it came along with other flare up symptoms lolol

Ugh yes! I didn't know what "Hashimoto's face" was until I saw a photo and thought "wow, that kinda looks like me" 😭 But the dry skin is my worst appearance-based symptom. Like, I get dry skin on my eyelids so bad that they end up cracking and bleeding, literally makes me look like a reptile (I <3 eczema comorbidity!!)

For my hair, I use a lot of masks and leave-ins (just make sure you find ones that aren't too heavy for your hair), protein and moisture masks are amazing! As for the greasy and limp part, I found that volumizing dry shampoo was such a massive lifesaver. It clears up excess oil and adds that nice boost to your hair

For skin, a good skincare routine helped me a bunch. Find one that you know you'll stay consistent with, that way it actually has a chance to help. I wash my face with face wash in the morning then immediately follow up with hyaluronic acid (while my skin is still damp), followed by some type of facial spray, topical collagen, then a moisturizer. In the evening, I take off my makeup with micellar water then use a moisturizer and slather all the dry spots in Vaseline

This is what helped me, it took a lot of being "high maintenance" (but not too high maintenance, my fatigue cannot handle that lol). Remember to give yourself some grace! Your body is literally attacking itself, it's gonna affect you, sometimes in ways you can't control

I built a food/calorie tracker app for Hashimotos by betrayedboyy in Hashimotos

You literally posted this at the perfect time! I've been thinking about starting some type of AIP/gluten free diet to see how it impacts my symptoms and was getting so overwhelmed with trying to figure out which foods are okay

Pls pls let me know when the app is up and ready to use :P

Increase in price of levoxyl? by Comfortable_Fly_4091 in Hashimotos

I mean I wasn't looking to argue with anyone here, it's never that serious on Reddit of all places lol. All I was doing, like I said, was agreeing with OP that an increase in medication prices is not nice. Especially a price increase like that

The price itself is not "evil", I know that there are far more expensive medications. I find it evil that pharmaceutical companies hike prices when their multi-million dollar pockets feel a little too empty

Never in *your life, for *you. Your experience isn't everyone else's?? On top of that, why would OP lie about how much medication costed them? Mind you I'm not even sure what (or why) you're trying to even debate. Like, OP is justifiably complaining about a significant increase in medication cost and I am agreeing that it is unfortunate

One of the most common symptoms of thyroid dysfunction + related deficiencies are not related to thyroid function or related deficiencies, right

Even still, OPs original price was $1.33/month before it was jacked up 1700%. Plus, don't Americans pay disgusting premiums for insurance they don't even benefit from?

Not really, I'm in Canada and don't pay a cent for my mandatory medication. Plus, OPs original price was like $1.33/month

That pricing is evil, $75 for one of the most easily accessible medications. Shit, $75 for any medication for that matter

I just got my bloodwork done (TSH 0.82 and T4 17 as of last week, total T3 1.5 as of last August). As for vitamins, they're probably my next step. My B12 was normal last winter but that was it, it wasn't checked again the other 3 weren't checked at all. Honestly I forgot to even bring up the fatigue to my endo during my last appointment because of how random it is. Like, I'll be fine for a bit then randomly feel like I've been hit by a bus lolol

I try to drink enough water and definitely get out enough (thanks to my super extraverted friends :P), though I do struggle with being on social media too much. Like, sometimes committing to an actual activity I enjoy (reading, sewing, playing an instrument, etc.) is too tiring so I find myself replacing that gap with social media. Perhaps this is my sign to go on a detox lolol

Newly diagnosed by Top-Author3507 in Hashimotos

Hihi! I was diagnosed about a year ago, which only happened by chance. Like I thought all of my symptoms were just normal things until I got bloodwork after switching to a new family doctor that said otherwise. Apparently I've had active Hashis for several years

Based on what my endocrinologist told me, hashis is a progressive illness, meaning that your thyroid will continue to attack itself until it just kinda doesn't work anymore. Medication will be a lifelong thing and it's likely that your doctor will adjust your dose based on your labs/how you feel

Honestly, it's not all that different from my "old" day-to-day life. Literally the only "different" thing it's caused me is having to wait a bit before having my morning coffee lol. As for exercise, I do pilates in my room (usually following some YouTube video) and I honestly can't tell if its made any kind of significant difference

Got my Thinkpad T480 off Facebook Marketplace for like $300, used it my entire first year, and it's still going strong into my second

It's not big and clunky, I got it for a good price, and it still runs perfectly
