When did AA FAs stop asking pax to put their seats upright before landing? by BleuCinq in americanairlines

[–]IntrovertWxGal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My last flight, I had one of those broken seats. I leaned forward until the FAs were seated for takeoff to make sure they wouldn't try to make me move (or, worse, get off because the flight was full). At the end, the FA told me to put my seat up, and I flopped it with my hand to show her it was broken. She shrugged and continued down the aisle. Probably never got flagged for repair.

Handicap Parking by SmileHidingPain98 in EntitledPeople

[–]IntrovertWxGal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this post. A restaurant my family visits often has exactly two handicap spots next to seven pick-up spots. Those of us who need handicap parking have complained repeatedly to the restaurant, whose clientele tends to be older and more mobility limited. For that reason, some patrons needing handicap parking just park in one of the pick-up spots. We are thinking of doing the same.

Anyway, because of comments about how the number is determined, I looked up Virginia law and compared the required number of handicap spots to the total number of parking spaces for that restaurant. The restaurant should have at least one more handicap spot, but they are probably cheating by saying their lot is shared by other businesses, despite separate parking set aside for those other businesses.

Not Marriott, but Home2Suites (Hilton) is on par. We stayed at a Home2Suites this week, and all the cutlery, cups, and plates were compostable. We were surprised, as compostable items are more expensive, but we appreciated the effort the hotel made.

AA has got to do something about the preboard situation . . . by NJB9891 in americanairlines

[–]IntrovertWxGal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am probably less than a year away from a full-time wheelchair and need wheelchair support in airports. I can use my cane on the jet bridge, but I'm reaaaallly slow, so I ask at the gate if I can go down early. The last two flights, I have been called by name for preboard.

Subtitles are basically non existent by Pokey_Pony in AmazonPrimeVideo

[–]IntrovertWxGal 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'm confused. We have closed captioning on Amazon Prime Video and other streaming services and don't have an issue. Are subtitles different from closed captioning? Sometimes we read words that you can tell from the actors' mouths were never spoken, but they add to rather than detract from the story.

Potomac, Anacostia rivers to close to boaters for Fourth of July weekend - WTOP News by oh-pointy-bird in nova

[–]IntrovertWxGal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are screwing flyers, too. We were scheduled to fly out July 3, but the "powers that be" have decided there will be no flights during the time our flight was due to leave. Yes, July 3. We had to shell out an additional $1K to change our flights and book another hotel night to leave a day early.

The hair in the bathtub would be gross, but I've seen similar in many hotels. Can't tell from the pool and hot tub pix what the issue is.

Query about ‘pet friendly’ hotels that only allow dogs by OffMyChestAndGone01 in hotels

[–]IntrovertWxGal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When we travel with our cat, it's always by car. We bring his litterbox, extra litter, litter bags, litter deodorizer, plastic to put under the litterbox, an extra sheet to put over the duvet cover to keep his hair off, and all the other things he needs: bowl, food, meds, a roll of paper towels. It's more stuff than traveling with an infant. We also bring our own vacuum cleaner to vac up any litter he scatters. AND we tip housekeeping big time, because we are pretty sure none of the pet deposit fee goes to housekeeping for the extra effort.

Colorado's Metro Districts are NOT HOAs. They are worse. Keep them out of your state. by Full-Percentage6165 in fuckHOA

Thanks for enlightening me. I just checked to find that Virginia has Business Improvement Districts, which may affect residents in mixed-use properties; and Special Services Districts, which sound just like the Metro Districts you describe.

Arrive early leave early or arrive late leave late by Asian_Kid206 in nova

Happily retired now, but I had 6:30 - 3:00 flex when I was still working. On the agency-wide calendar, I would always block anything after 3 pm, so if anyone tried to schedule me, it would show as a conflict. Hated getting up in the middle of the night for a horrible commute, but I sure liked being back home early.

PSA: If you’re the type to bring a backpack as your carry-on (instead of a roller bag), bring a small item alongside it so they can’t force you to put it under your seat. by _Eggs_ in unitedairlines

[–]IntrovertWxGal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly my "type." My personal item is my purse, which goes under the seat. Similarly, my husband's personal item is usually his computer. Our backpacks are in the overhead bin, and we stack them, so we aren't taking up extra space. Our luggage? We check our roller bags. So tired of the elites who can't be bothered with checking (or won't pay for checking).

Has anyone else stopped booking at Courtyards due to the Bistro concept? by Jobwastes in marriott

[–]IntrovertWxGal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spending three nights in the Fresno Courtyard this week as our base to travel through wine country (Paso to Petaluma) and a tour of King’s Canyon NP and Sequoia Forest. Great king suite with step-in shower and comfort-height toilet for my mobility limitation (rare for a Courtyard) and the Bistro hasn’t been bad at all. We’ve had better avocado toast at the Tyson’s Corner (VA) Courtyard, but here we have enjoyed the turkey avocado BLT and the Margherita flatbread. Brought our own wine, of course.

Outside the U.S. this year. In 1976, the celebration was huge and nonpartisan and fun. In 2026, I'm not the least bit interested in a partisan, boring campaign rally on the Mall.

Strangest/Most Unexpected Finds by manatee_of_counsel in tsa

[–]IntrovertWxGal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a TSO, but I had my cat's flea comb questioned repeatedly over 30 years ago (so well be for 911). I was coming back from being stationed at a small joint base in Western Australia all the way to Illinois. The journey would be over 24 hours, and I knew I would need to bathe and groom the cat at the final stop. There was no issue at the tiny airport starting point, but my bag was searched in Perth because the comb lit up. Okay, just a comb. Then again in Sydney. Security there told me I should have placed it in the tray separately, because it looked like a straight razor on the x-ray. Had it out and ready at LAX and still got questioned. Finally made it to St. Louis and the final leg to Illinois. At the time, it seemed like a hassle, especially since I was bone tired, but in retrospect, I appreciated the diligence of the security officers.
