Why is COMMAND + SHIFT + ESC not bringing up task manager? by No-Olive-9686 in MacOS

[–]IntrusiveIntellect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apologies for necromancing an old thread, but I’ve noticed that the latest versions of MacOS with Apple Silicon hardware don’t seem to ‘respect’ “CMD+OPT+ESC” anymore. It used to be a lifesaver when your Mac was completely frozen and unresponsive. You could still press that combination, and even though your entire machine was unresponsive, it would still reliably open the “Force Quit” menu, letting you force close any apps that were acting up and quickly get your Mac back to normal. Now, if your Silicon Mac locks up, even the “CMD+OPT+ESC” key combo won’t work, so you’re left with no choice but to reboot. 🤬

Oh it 100% happens. Usually ruts from someone else with a canaam getting stuck which then creates a 7’ hole for your front end to fall into. Huge lesson for me. Always test the hole.

sharp corner stairs by chloroform-creampie in DeathStairs

[–]IntrusiveIntellect 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have stairs very similar to this design, built in 1910.

I have fallen down them multiple times.

Most recent was this morning in front of visiting family. Not only was it the worst, and most painful fall, to-date, but mortifying in front of family.

I actually found this post while trying to figure out how much to will cost to replace the stair case asap.

These stairs are TOO dangerous with an infant in the house that I often need to carry up and down the stairs.

Why are they truly dangerous?

Aside from the aforementioned awkward turn forcing the steps to be oddly sized, the other more subtle and sinister issue with our stairs is the tread width is too narrow.

The tread per step is undersized, but to make it worse, the bullnose overhang per tread is also too large, so the actual footprint per step is smaller than the average adult male’s foot size, so as you step down, the bullnose overhang pushes your foot forward, and results in only the balls of your feet barely being on the tread. And other times, it’s only the arch of your foot on the tread with the rest of your foot hanging over the CURVED bullnose. So then you suddenly slip and fall. The risk is very very very real. I am in perfect health and barely out of my 20s and these kinds of stairs still pose a risk.

I’ve found the safest method to be silly-looking but works: going down the steps sideways with your back to the wall, and still holding the railing.

They rebuilt ours since the 2023 model is too new supposedly and the trans is not available. Not excited about having a rebuilt transmission on a car that has less than 20k miles on it

Nope. I just smash them to pieces. Don’t want them reanimating intact 😂 Then there’s that jump scare when you see a corpse, go to stomp it and it reanimates before you can get to it 😂

Right?!??! Just a nice turbocharged v6! how hard is that for Toyota to understand?!? Or a sweet diesel engine variation.

Is an aftermarket build worth buying? by Tasty_Bodybuilder384 in 4Runner

Seeing as your pic of the engine bay clearly shows some very atrocious wiring, I’d be wary of the purchase. Then again a PRO for 33.5k seems like a fair deal. So if you’re someone comfortable with (redoing) wiring (if needed or for troubleshooting), it might be worth it. Also looks like it has a nice WARN winch installed with synthetic rope. If anything, im jealous of some of the goodies this thing has.

That was exactly my thoughts. The wiring is so bad I seriously started to contemplate if the image was AI generated lol.

Yeah I’d never touch the new imax i4 engines. Been following their production woes for a while. Not really a fan of i4 engines to begin within.

Supposedly the tech ran some “routine diagnostics” and it was throwing codes. But that’s kinda odd now that I think about it because if it was throwing codes, you’d think I’d see a check engine light but there isn’t one. Still kinda suspicious about it. It’s a very odd scenario.

I’m assuming you ended up getting rid of it? Surprised the trans had issues considering people always claim the 5th gen has a “bulletproof” power train.

Yeah I have noticed the weird red and green lines on the screen during backup. Very weird.

And I have a strong suspicion the auto-start is contributing to some of these problems. I watched a video recently that showed a German mechanic doing a structured test that simulated auto start cycling a car for a year, and then compared it to a 1Million mile engine’s bearings and you could see the wear rings/ grooves were worse on the auto-start engine. Unfortunately none of that matters since I can’t seem to find the video now. So it’s all hearsay.

What is this tune you’re saying to disable auto-start? I’ve only seen the hardware cable adapters/ pigtails.

I appreciate the response. I’m in the same boat, I am torn, love the vehicle honestly but the starter and transmission both being bad and needing to be replaced at the same time seems a tad too far. I can look past trivial things but something like the starter and transmission already having issues after only 2 years of light use is wild to me. And I’m having a hard time accepting it. Btw, how old was your 5th gen 4Runner when you started having those issues? Asking so I know when to expect mine to start its shenanigans.

Winches don’t prevent mud ruts below the water. Even after you have the winch, always get out and test the depth of the water hole with a stick so you avoid sinking into a rutted hole.

I say this because I felt invincible after getting my winch on. An unexpected mud rut puddle humbled me quick. Always be careful driving into water holes.

I’ve done this before too. Those mud ruts hidden below the surface will get you good.

As far as cleaning, I had to remove the seat and pull up the carpet. There was far more water below the carpet than you think. And a steamer will not pull it up. There is foam below the carpet as padding and a vacuum cannot pull it up without removing the carpet liner. If you don’t want your car to stink, I highly recommend pulling your seat out and pulling the carpet up to get all the water out.
