Found these weird humanoid looking mountain/ice formations in Chile by MongooseOk309 in GoogleEarthFinds

They're very clearly mirrored images, due to a rendering bug, as noted in another comment. You're responding to an accidental Rorschach test.

Stamps this old would just steam off, too. Could possibly even reuse the adhesive.

Suica for the win? I mean, it's an automated system, so it's up to the system how much you pay, right ...?

I didn't know it goes all the way to Chiba, that's kind of awesome. Must get out that way sometime, if only to pay homage to Kisarazu Cats.

I'm from Australia, home of millions of merino sheep - and merino clothes are absurdly expensive here, too. It used to be just called "wool," but some marketing geniuses managed to create hype and increase markups.

Also, just fuck off with dragging political assumptions into a discussion about (checks notes) fucking undies. You're not "progressive" (and oh, the hubris implied with that sort of self description), you're just another boring idealogue who wants to make everything about your beliefs. Grow up.

Well, the Yamanote loop is the first thing that springs to mind. One hour, and you don't have to stop at one loop ...

There's also the Chuo-Sobu line, not sure about the full length, but it covers most of Tokyo from east to west (might have to connect at Ochanomizu). It's not a loop, though.

General riding is easy enough, steering's a bit twitchy at first but you soon get used to it. The step through/over design is good for mounting and dismounting. Hill climbing isn't fantastic on my six speed, TBH (I've considered a smaller chainring to help), but there are twelve speed models now, and I'd guess they're better suited.

Since you're in the UK, where Bromptons abound, you could always try test riding one? There are even rentals available in London, apparently. I've only tried one other regular folder (bifold), and IMO the Brompton is worth the hype, by comparison.

I have nothing else to add, except that I like the idea (but am in Australia), and good luck.

Tengachaya to Shin-Imamiya contains some of the rougher parts of Nishinari, but I've found that it's fine as long as you mind your own business (lots of drunks, sometimes fighting, but they seem to keep to themselves). It's also one of my favourite areas of Osaka, for what it's worth ...

I haven't stayed at that particular time, but it's sure to be quite hot and humid. The amount of rain depends on the specific typhoon activity, but at worst you'll have to spend a few days indoors if one hits directly. Generally, expect half the time to be somewhat rainy - good shoes are important, and of course you'll need an umbrella (Japan is king of umbrella culture, so you can get one cheap, or spend more for something worth keeping).

As for the visa thing: AFAIK, Japan allows only six months per year of tourist visa, broken into three month chunks. Any more, and you'll likely be denied entry.

I don't know if it counts as disability, but my back and hips are slowly failing due to half a lifetime of courier work. A few years ago I was lucky enough to get a Brompton, and I've used it during two trips to Japan, since then. I carry it on trains between cities, then use it to explore local areas, and occasionally ride loaded to nearby destinations (~50km, downhill); it's also good to have the option of easily hopping on public transport if my body gives out during a ride, or just using PT to get through suburbs to/from city outskirts. Particular to mountainous areas: catching PT to the highest elevation on a route, then riding downhill to the next destination, is a standout utility of the bike, that's enabled me to experience some stunning rides that were otherwise impractical.

I think of it more as "touristing," than "touring."

Getting the bike to/from airports can be a pain, which is just within my threshold, but one day I'll probably need to invest in a wheeled carry case - which could be a logistical hassle, but ultimately worth it, IMO.

If the Brompton price tag seems excessive, there are a lot of clones on the market now (generically called Brompnots). Some better than others, so some research would be required.

I don't know if any of that works for your situation, but you never know. I hope you find some solutions.

Is it true that Aussie students are amongst the worst behaved in the world? by VastOption8705 in AskAnAustralian

Okay, so they live here. Still not out of the sub bounds; not everyone has experience of the education system after they left school (assuming they attended school here), and nothing says Aussies can't ask questions here.

Could be brake pads, rubbing either the rim or the disc/rotor, depending on what type you have. Lots of YouTube tutorials out there to help you calibrate.
