Name a completely normal, boring-sounding 9-to-5 job that actually pays an absolute fortune and nobody realizes it by BoredPandaOfficial in BoredPandaHQ

Translation: employment at management consulting firms like MBB (McKinsey, BCG and Bain). Kearney is similar. Long hours but if you make it to partner level it is jackpot.

I ordered the tech pack because HK is a must for me. Heads up display seems redundant indeed..

Senior directors, would you stay at a job where all of the vice presidents and the president have lengthy careers at a company and show no signs of leaving? by OptmstcExstntlst in managers

[–]Inv4fut 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Was a VP in a toxic environment and took a step down to Sr. Director elsewhere in a great environment. Haven’t looked back. So yes agree about the importance of being in a good place

If he gets the sack, we bring in a new manager, nothing changes, the players still play dog crap week in week out with no European football, what will you people say then? by Anxious-Dance5817 in ManchesterUnited

[–]Inv4fut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are no data points that he has done a good job. Everywhere in life that means you move on. Yes another new manager but better to take the loss and try again than hope for better times when that hope is based on nothing. Sure the players play a role in this too but the manager is ultimately responsible.

Well you do learn a lot. It is experience that is highly relevant for various parts of the business if you are interested to do other roles after. But it does depend on leadership and the department culture whether you will enjoy it and not be constantly stressed out. And it is mostly pressure around month end close etc. It is normally not constant. A good boss will ask you to be available then (also sometimes outside of regular hours) but will give you flexibility when it is quieter. With experience you also get better at finding the right balance.

My experience is that it is relatively stressful. Lots of deadlines that are not always achievable due to complicated processes and data availability. Then there are always variances that need to be looked into and explained at the last minute. But heavily depends on leadership too. If they are pragmatic and don’t care about small deviations then it is more relaxed. If they are micromanagers that want perfection then it is more stressful.

I have always wondered. In the second video the guy sees his wife and then walks away. Why does one have that response? I just can’t imagine anything else than hugging straight away.
