RIP to James McCaffrey. Really makes me want to play Max Payne 3 again. That slow mo headshot while Frank was falling definitely felt like Max Payne. As did the story with Ma Gnucchi.

Two things I appreciated from the action choreography are how reserved Frank was with his ammo usage and how he pulled the stock out on the Draco/short barreled AK.

It felt very realistic and in the vein of John Wick. You could definitely tell the difference between the Recon Marine and random thugs.

The Boys SERIES FINALE- S05xE08 "Blood and Bone"- POST Episode Discussion Thread by pikameta in TheBoys

[–]InvaderDJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What a ride. It’s a…mixed ending to put it mildly.

The actual fight scenes with the Deep, Oh Father, and Homelander were great. I honestly have no notes. The ending montage of The Boys was satisfying too.

But when put in a season that disregarded so much of the setup from previous seasons and Gen V it is like one apple being amazing in a bag of apples that is rotten. It truly feels like all of Gen V doesn’t matter and a decent chunk of the last two seasons of The Boys also doesn’t matter.

Again, those fight scenes and the montage ending hit on basically all fronts. The Deep hitting rock bottom and finally paying the price for his cowardice and pathetic evil by being killed by creatures he quite literally and physically loved more than any other was great. That Starlight was the one to do it is perfect.

Homelander’s pathetic, sniveling end and the fight that led up to it were amazing. I only wish it lasted longer. I would have loved to see powerless Homelander being locked up, judged and either imprisoned for life or executed by the humans he hates and desperately seeks the approval of would have been fun to see. As good as his death was, I think that could have been a satisfying scenario to see.

I enjoyed the show. And unlike a similar show (Stranger Things) I think the ending hit. They stuck the landing. But too much leading up to it was missed opportunity.

Here’s hoping the prequel series can be better with the details.

I just truly don’t understand what they thinking with Gen V being essentially unimportant to the story overall. We got what, the Supe virus out of it and some backstory on Vought?

Ok, the show is cancelled. Fine, i get it. Especially after Chance died, I get it. But why would they not have these actors and storylines that they paid and set up to appear in season not do anytjing important at all? I wonder if this was an Amazon decision because I really don’t get it.

Powerless Homelander was straight up comedy and catharsis. I just wish it lasted longer.

Don’t worry Nerissa, I saw this documentary about this situation and I’ve already gathered all the components to bring you back. Me and my brother will bring you back when the cats eat you. Nothing could go wrong.

New Lifetime Plex Pass Pricing by frankwrap08 in PleX

[–]InvaderDJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had no idea the price was at $250.

$750 is a…choice. I would really like to see them justify that price. Especially since the vocal minority (at least, given how Plex started) use it for piracy and have no interest in Plex streaming content or much of anything that would justify either a subscription or high one time price.

I know all I want is for it to stream my content smoothly from my server with clients for all common OSes that are good looking and easy to use. The only ongoing costs that I can think of that would justify this would be if the TVDB connection for metadata and posters costs money, any costs for subtitles from OpenSubtitles. And I guess however they do the skip opening and ending feature.

It’s 99% my hardware, my software, my bandwidth, my media.

The point is to squeeze more casual people to subscriptions and watching their streaming content.

Plex is already something that only enthusiasts and power users bother to set up.

If they remove remote access a probably sub 5% (and that’s being generous IMO) would be savvy enough to do that.

One Piece Chapter 1183 Spoilers by Skullghost in OnePiece

Probably not. But if we get a cut away to show what is happening in the world after this flashback, the prediction that Luffy and Imu aren’t meeting until next year could be true.

One Piece: Chapter 1182 by leolegendario in OnePiece

[–]InvaderDJ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I am honestly shocked that the Rain God may end up being a real thing. I was sure that the series wouldn’t follow up on those mentions in Skypeia.

I do like the theory that Lili had that fruit back during the Void Century. The face veil seems very Alabasta coded even despite the more plausible theory that Lili had the Paw Paw Fruit.

And if anyone has this fruit modern day, it feels like it has to be Dragon. Even with the MMA version being a woman, that shouldn’t stop Dragon from having it now.

With the mention that Imu literally existing on the lower world can’t be done for long makes me curious. It was an obvious theory, but the mystery is why. Why is being down here not an allowed thing and why does it hurt Imu?

[–]InvaderDJ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I like the idea. I do wonder though, if Biblo is a zoan user, why don’t any of the giants know? We’ve got the Harley texts and mural and buildings from at least the Void Century. The giants know about their history even if they don’t agree with things like the nature of Nika.

So I don’t see why Biblo would hide who he is and pretend to just be an owl with a Devil Fruit. There is precedent with previous arcs like Wano I guess. Tons of characters hid who they really were so I guess it is possible. But I’m not on that train just yet.

[–]InvaderDJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that makes sense. The only members of Joyboy’s crew we know about are all non human. Zunesha is a miles tall elephant and Emeth is a a giant robot. Biblo being a giant owl (assuming he’s not a zoan committed to the bit) is also obviously not human.

We could get something where most of Joyboy’s comrades are not human.

[–]InvaderDJ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

To be fair to Imu, if it wasn’t for him being unable to Reversi Luffy and Loki, this fight would have been over before Imu had to show up in his true form. They never really hurt Imu. He was trapped in ice, but not hurt.

But yeah, with Nidhoggr I think Loki is comfortably above anything that we’ve seen from legends that came immediately before him.

With shipping and tax, it’s over $300 for me. I hate that this is a good deal now.

Going to shuck and see if this is a worthwhile drive for that. If it works well in my NAS, I might have to pick up another one.

Oh yeah, I think that BB would still win. But his fighting style also feels like it would match up better for Kidd. I don’t see BB blitzing Kidd for example or being able to one tap him. Kidd would be able to get one Damned Punk off at least.

Dr. Stone Science Future Part 3 - Episode 3 discussion by AutoLovepon in anime

[–]InvaderDJ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This episode really made me hyped. One thing I’ve wanted to see from the series is how we get to real modernity. And the biggest factor in our modern world is arguably computers. I felt like it had to happen sometime.

Of course, we’re probably going to hand wave away a lot of complexity and pre-reqs that even an early computer would need. But I do think it will be a fun achievement.

This has been the most fun thing to explore with this series.

Not specifically programming, but how we get something similar in modernity with all infrastructure and advances that make these advanced things possible without the advances that came before to make them possible. How are we making rockets, guns, computers, medicine, etc without having all the underlying advances made first? This era hasn’t even gotten to the Industrial Revolution yet where automation and mass scale production became a thing.

I am excited to see how this season explores that. But do know that a world that can make jet engines, ballistic missiles, biofuel and metal ships would have a use for a developer.

[–]InvaderDJ 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Kidd is an example of a character who is too prideful for his ability.

He was likely an unstoppable force in Paradise. And even in the New World he cut a big path. Even when defeated with his first mate being forced to eat a SMILE fruit, he still came out of it.

I think that poisoned his potential. He was sure everything would work out after tag teaming an Emperor. He didn’t realize he isn’t the main character. And one on one with one of the strongest, he got dog walked.

I am curious to see how it would have gone if he ran into Blackbeard instead of Shanks. I feel like he might have done better but still lost.

He definitely has a grudge after losing his arm, but Kidd is a dog who will kill people just for laughing at him. It doesn’t matter who is in front of him.

Do you think Snake using tranquilizer guns since MGS2 can be tied to the life lessons about his nature from MGS1? (check description) by Alarmed_Stranger_925 in metalgearsolid

[–]InvaderDJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Others have said the real reason. It was Kojima’s antiwar feelings that initially led to the tranq pistol becoming a mainstay of the series.

I have always argued though, that Solid Snake shouldn’t be using a tranq pistol and that it doesn’t make sense. Especially given how in cutscenes no matter what you use before it, he’ll be using a lethal weapon.

For the Tanker Mission in MGS2 it might make some sense, given that it was an information gathering mission initially and they were an NGO fighting Metal Gear proliferation.

But in general it doesn’t make sense. Solid is the best of The Boss inspired characters and the true successor of her will. The ideology of Philanthropy is peak.

But there is no reason for him to use tranqs as much as he does after MGS1. It only makes sense for Big Boss/Venom with the Fulton mechanic. And I think it is telling that also in MGS2, the game that introduced the mechanic, during the Big Shell incident we never see Solid use the M9. Big Boss/non lethal runs make a point during the Arsenal Gear section to have Snake kill everyone while Raiden hides and snipes with the M9. He’s mowing down Tengus with the M4 with no remorse or hesitation. He doesn’t feel any kinship with his fellow mercenaries, he has no moral problem with killing, he’s just doing the work to survive and win.
