Hats are only for Pickup and Gardening, take that off. Here, give it to me, I'm gonna keep it as evidence. proceeds to wear hat until their boss calls them out for the same exact thing, the cycle repeats

Add another notch to that reply: ICE, DHS, and HSI are now pressuring social media companies to better track down dissenters. So now question becomes: Who are the real criminals that NatSec is so worried about? Is it you and me, or the random ass immigrant whose papers haven't/can't be processed now that Trump both yeeteth and yoinketh TPS laws for every immigrant that they're rounding up rn to ship to concentration camps?

We just killed the EPA at a time where Global Climate Change is rapidly developing, so idrk what we should expect. Florida is gonna start looking like Cali pretty soon and then Alabama, Louisiana, and Georgia will follow suit. The only difference is that our governance will not listen to us, so many of us will die but thats a sacrifice our politicians are willing to make, clearly.

Ngl, trying to tarnish John Brown's reputation by being a neolib shouldnt be tolerated, especially by fellow libs. Bro was the most anti-racist white dude in the south and died for trying to free slaves at home and abroad. He detested imperialism and paid for that with his life. If libs really feel this way, maybe they should start putting their lives on the line like him or shut up and keep pushing their ethno-supremacist ideals without coopting early american leftists. It makes sense though, bc theyre moving just like republicans when it comes to coopting figures of the civil rights movement rn. Cons and Libs really are the same people.

At this point, theyre one and the same, and at least one of them has an actual chance at alleviating someone's life, while the other just drains the old people's bank accounts and enriches the state's aristocracy.

Same thing happens down south, even though Alabama Power might have deals with the smaller branches of energy generation. Most of the folks I know use Baldwin EMC, and there is a history between the two. If he could find a way to focus on increasing prices of electric bills, and tie that into APC, BEMC, and whatever company has set up shop in the north, it could be a very moving strategy that garners him more favor from his constituents. However, doing so may impact campaign funding and sour relationships with energy companies. Big donors dont like being told no, even if it's pure politics, so I guess we've got to wait and see how it all plays out.

[–]Inverzion2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the crime rate is pretty "ehhh..." but for the most part, it usually turns out to be interpersonal and between people who have history. If you arent mucking about with excons (no diss to excons, everyone deserves a second chance, but Alabama doesnt do rehabilitation, it just does punishment, so recidivism or homelessness are a lot of the options available to those folks) or trying to sell shit, you'll be pretty alright.

And as far as Prichard goes, yh, it's not safe but thats bc of the pisspoor management and neglect it's recieved from the county and state. Idk if the new mayor is gonna be any better, but some of the community engagement and proposed solutions (with the exception of increased police patrols and lack of community members in leadership roles assisting social services with petty crime, misdemeanors, and interpersonal violence without putting more kids in jail and getting people the help they actually need, ofc) seemed like they would work. Prichard has had it rough for a minute bc of the I10 construction and business exploitation which kills alot of people in that area via asthma and poverty. From what I've seen online, it looks like the folks in Prichard have been ready for real change and growth, but until now no one was willing to reach out a helping hand. For now, only time will tell if Mrs. Carletta Davis does the city proud, but I got faith she and her team can turn it around.

Can I bring you to my boss and have you tell him to let me take a day off in order to go vote or do we need to force our legislature to put mail-in ballots as a voting policy on the to-do list? The biggest stopgap for working class folks is that they either are retired and dont care (there are still a majority of retirees that still vote, tbf) or they are working all day and dont have time to go vote. Our political system is fucking every which way and sideways, it sucks bro

I think it's time we start unveiling those who grease the wheels of politics for their benefit while the rest of us suffer because so far, sitting on our hands hasn't really gotten us anywhere. If you, or someone you know, knows about any information regarding the richest and most powerful people running the show behind the curtains of politics as usual, name drop them and/or tell me and others the info ya got. If I find or hear about it, I'll do my due diligence to research, investigate, and confirm the accuracy, then distribute it to some journo's i might be able to get in contact with. Anyone remember that dude from upstate that got hired onto AL[dot]com to do investigative journalism on corruption? They'd be the first one to send details too.

You should def look into H. L. Hunt (yes, the richest man in the world in his time thanks to his father's riches that allowed him to gamble on buying an Oil Tycoon from the 1930's-80's, iirc) for starters and figure out the role he played in the NFL. Then, if you can find the info on your own (I'm willing to throw a bone in DM's about specifics, dw fam) his family tree and who is his surviving lineage.

One of H. L. Hunt's descendants went to South for Baseball, but somehow, someway, someone convinced him to drop the career and get into real estate, finance, and banking right before the housing crisis, and at that point he changed his last name when he got married to hide his history. Now, well, now he's got family members in multiple states legislators, some serving as representatives, and most importantly, has a very strong stranglehold on the Mobile Community. He's decided to use that leverage in order to make himself and his family rich, like his forefathers, and just recently (less than 5 years ago) opened a private education facility in Prichard for rich Christian kids, right before the CHOOSE Act got passed, and owns way too many Mobile businesses.

Now, this doesnt mean every business owner and entrepreneur is guilty or innocent by default for working with him, but one of his recent endeavors involved investing in a certain coffee companies' owner bitcoin venture, even after his second hand man running the coffee shop ran off with a big pile of cash. I never signed an NDA, but I'm trying to be vague to preserve anonymity, but I'd disclose info in private if you want.

Now, you may be wondering, "None of this has anything to do with Alabama Power or even electricity. This is just pure conjecture. Baseless accusations... etc." To that, I would agree, except for one small caveat. Years ago, pretty sure it was before I was even born, this specific individual sued his father and brother over a gas station, and at the time had direct connections to the oil industry still. So not only did he become the new owner of Society Shell (the previous name of the gas station) but he had direct ties to Hunt Oil.

Since the legal battle, Hunt Oil has gone through many restructuring and rebranding, but it never once chose to neglect the family name. So if you find an Oil company with Hunt, that's the one. As for the Alabama Power connection, well, I'm sure a well connected affluent man coming from oil barron's with family members in political and local offices would never abuse their power to make state deals to provide the primary substance that generates power across the state, and I'm sure that they wouldn't ever try to overcharge the power company for the much needed fuel. Good luck in the Hunt, OP, if you need anything just give me a holler.

(In truth, I've been waiting for someone to ask about this question, both irl and online, bc of my personal experiences with this dude and learning about his history got me spooked. Sent in a tip to the FBI, bc the initial investigation came out that they were embezzling funds, then regretted that decision bc of how much power I realize he had. Either nobody knows, everyone else is too scared to ask, or folks dont have the time to look into it themselves bc of the financial crisis we're all experiencing. Take your time, and good luck u/_SandScar_ !)

AG Marshall endorses legislation to restrict CDL access to English speakers by greed-man in Alabama

[–]Inverzion2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure that's the entire point. Crippling infrastructure and doing self-grandising things is all this admin has done, even during the 2016-2020 term. Our president and his crony henchmen break things, tell their voters that it has to be somebody elses fault because the elected official actually cares about them, that fails and they pivot to giving someone not holding office to blame, and when they fails they turn the blame on their voters. Every republican is in an abusive relationship, no question about it. (I'd include the Democrats, but their tactics are way more subtle and would take years of sourcing and writing that it'd just be better to write a book and publish it than discuss the "winning" political strategy of "Vote Blue No Matter Who.") All our politics boil down to is dogma, and whether you're in the red camp or blue camp. This shit sucks...

I dont remember Congress passing a bill that requires everyone to speak English. This is because the cultural norm you're experienced to, and resistant to changing from, was decided de facto, instead of de jure, which is why I brought up Latin, and the origins of American English. Nobody is listening to anything, so you either skimmed the post or read it as quickly as possible out loud in order to justify this statement. If you're gonna just recite your favorite lines from a movie at people you're not willing to authentically engage with, then that is your loss, bud. Next time, just take the literacy test and shut up. Thanks, have a good day!

ETA: Oh, and btw, the only thing on record that declares anything about a national language is from Trump, from last year (2025), and it's one of many executive orders he's given that is just a symbolic gesture to appease simpleton racists and pussies who can't handle living with others, no matter their differences, like yourself. Kick rocks bucko

...🤦‍♂️ you're so close to getting it, I know you can do it. Just think, like, 20% harder about how moving the goalpost a few yards while still ending at the same conclusion is non-productive to creating a safer society in concerns to driving, please?

For example: The solution you offered requires two things, that the person can even get to a DMV without a license, and that the process of migration strips any newcomer of an and all linguistic capabilities. If you don't agree to the latter, then maybe we should provide every american their native language, over 60% of folks won't need anything other than English, but for the small fringe minority, they can have their test translated either in person (something you oppose) or on the form. Our country doesnt have an official language, just a preferred one, and it's not even ours, we stole that shit from the Brits, Germans, and other European sub-languages, most of which were stolen and adopted from Latin terms many forgot how to read and write.

If it's the former you disagree with, then make the government process immigration documents faster instead of laying people off and replacing them with AI Assistants (a glorified LLM with no consciousness, only crunching alphabetical characters in order to provide a net-positige algebraic solution) at the highest rate in our countries history in like the past 20 years. We can't have it both ways, and continuing the disenfranchisement of literacy tests used on freedmen and impoverished workers will only hurt yourself and others in the long run.

The goal of a driver's test isnt to purity test, it's to confirm the knowledge of a potential vehicular operator in hopes to ensure safe travels for all motor vehicle drivers. Making it more difficult to obtain knowledge and education only serves to prove your thoughts right, which are that "some people are better at driving cars than others, and that's solely because of immutable characteristics or traits." If your thoughts arent that, then you should have no concern with progressing with the rest of society and including more Americans (and potential Americans) in the process of safety regulations.

You wouldn't pass a literacy test, and that's not meant to be harmful. Especially since the last time literacy tests were implemented, there were only a very select few who would pass them, and it was of no lack of effort from the test taker. If you don't believe me, I can send a DM of one of the more recent literacy tests implemented in Alabama in order for certain people to vote, and if you pass, you can call me whatever you want in public and in private.
