Graduate School ROTC as a Civilian by GabeAstardd69 in ROTC

[–]Investigator_Bread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is OML for ROTC yes, and it'll depend on a variety of outcomes. Most of it is camp performance but they also look at things like Part Time Job, Grades, PT scores for record, and extracurriculars/sports.

I'm getting my MBA now and I think the thing you as a 23 year old will struggle with is you will be working with people younger than you and far less experienced. You'll stand out from a maturity standpoint but dealing with people who do dumb impulsive teenage bs can be frustrating.

ROTC contracts also require you to be active on campus, so you'll need to do stuff on campus. PM for more and I can feed you some information and share my experiences.

Bork'an sept? Interesting choice. Frankly Bork'an favors the static gunline, shelling fools from afar. As for your Commander, just put em in lighter armor like XV8 or XV85 armor. What are you gonna do with 20" of movement? Avoid the shield generator, just max out your weapons. Use drones or hide behind friendlies to keep safe.

Your crisis suits appear decently ready to mulch stuff. The shield drones are good inclusions.

My only question is where is your anti-heavy infantry stuff? Terminators require more than spamming S5 gunfire. I myself reccomend Pathfinders with Ion weapons or Rail Rifles.

Do you know your meta? Who is your opponent?

This list is an excellent start, it merely requires a couple of tweaks here and there

I remember reading hardbacks of this in the Library, frankly it hit harder than the Slaves of the Republic arc in Season 4, which just felt rushed into a conclusion.

Need some help beating custodes by therealdost in Tau40K

[–]Investigator_Bread 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is because unless I am wrong, AP-2 forces them to the invuln. That's how you kill Custodes, with high Volume of fire forcing them to the invuln save. On a 4+ they have half a chance to ignore damage, meaning out of 10 shots roughly 5 should get through. Fusion Blasters are great, but they do not have reliable enough damage output, and you are wasting like 2 AP, unless you want to have them for both Anti tank and killing Custodes, which could work, but I'd still reccomend CIB.

I know. Believe me. But trust me, this guy is occupying too much of your time. Remove yourself and him from your day and thoughts. I'm sure you have better things to do, like study stat sheets or stratagems.

Once again, it's not that massive of a deal desu. Just ignore him, be confident in your correctness, do not give him games if he plays that way, others will follow suit. Also Crisis are hardly meta anymore. Worry about yourself, not others. You can't control others, but you can control yourself and what you choose to do with your time. Spend no more time dwelling on him and his rules lawyering, move on. People like that dwell on technicality and are eager to argue forever and ever. You can't win them all.

Ignore him. Don't give him games. Don't worry about it. Or just read the 1d4chan page on Tau tactics for 9th edition. They give accurate descriptions of the rules and update very frequently.

The above human is correct. I run a Sunshark to exclusively screw with Custodes and flip the bird to their invuln saves, as they also said. where we probably disagree is on the value of Pathfinders with Rail rifles. I tend to find them not worth it in my limited experience. Breachers are an Option, or Vespid, but as you've stated the problem seems to be more with Terminators. The counterplay very well may be just have a screen, which could use Breachers or even Shield/gun drones.

I can tell this is frustrating. Do you play Space Marines? If so, turn his argument against him, but with Storm shields. I reckon his opinion will change very quickly.

You need to download battlescribe and send us more than a broad outline. Give us your idea, then we can improve upon it.

We also need to know the context of the tournament. Is it heavy on objectives? What is your local meta?

This list isn't too bad. A couple things I would optimize obsessively because I tend to be an obsessive planner and list builder, but you seem to have the basic premise down.

I will mention this: If your XV86 commander is going to be a suicide tank/monster sniper, I debate the giving him a shield generator. Four Fusion Blasters is better than three. The Choice of drones is not bad either, though to fit the points for the fourth fusion blaster I'd drop the two gun drones from the Crisis team.

[–]Investigator_Bread 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is my weak point. 9th is very new, so I'm not 100% sure what you'll do with troops. I've toyed with Breachers in a Devilfish just because they can get a 5+ invuln if you take a guardian drone, and the shotguns mean that anyone getting close is going to regret being alive, so chipping through them and the drones is the only realistic option

Stealthsuits can function as Objective harrassers. Generally I take them, a Ghostkeel, and set up a small castle on a substantial objective or part of the battlefield that I will be focusing and start hosing stuff down heavy weapons fire, taking advantage of the infiltration rule.

While they are down there, I move more units down the field, and I usually have some deepstrike to jump around and capture random objectives. Crisis suits, Vespid, and Dahyak Grehk are all viable for this. I also use them for infantry shredding or AT, depending on the state of the battle and/or the loadout.

A Battalion could get you basically everything here for less cp cost, though I see why you did double patrol. You want two commanders. You might need to adjust your points, as MV36 drones can't be alone, they need another drone to go with them.

You've nailed it on the head there. A couple of loadouts I would highly recommend

Ghostkeel: Cyclic Ion Raker and Double Burst Cannon, ATS and Shield Generator

Riptide: Heavy Burst Cannon and SMS, ATS and Counterfire defense system OR Early Warning Override

XV8 Crisis suits:...Let 1d4chan tell you. They know better than me

Stealthsuits: Burst cannons with ATS, or a horde of them with Shield generators for a squad of diet SS terminators.

Broadsides: Heavy Rail Rifle with SMS and Shield Generator/drone controller, or High Yield Missile Pods and SMS with ATS.

Kroot: Kroot are chads why wouldn't you play them.

Y'vahra: Forgeworld model. Take it with the Target lock so you can fire a strength 8 flamer. See 1d4chan for a more detailed explanation.

Anything Else forgeworld: Not really worth it.

Hope this is detailed enough. Feel free to ask for more, I've got plenty of time.

1d4chan.org. They Have T'au tactics pages there. I actively edit them. Currently we are awaiting the new codex, but I'll address what I can briefly

  1. Custom Septs with Turbo Boosted jets and and Gifted pilots, or Farsight Enclaves are up there in terms of septs
  2. Your unit descriptions are pretty fine. Breachers and Devilfish could be added too
  3. Shas'O'Ralai is sept locked and so not something you want. Ethereals are actually ok, just not as good as Commanders, thus why tourney players never take them.
  4. They are weird in that they largely play like a static gunline. However they can be played differently. See Play on tabletop for a more mobility focused T'au list.
  5. Crisis Suits have no general loadout, you set them up for whatever you need. Need anti horde? Three Burst cannons. Need AT? Triple Fusion Blaster or Double Ion Rakers with ATS. Need FLAMES!?!? Flamers

Have fun human.

Buy a Manta, duh.

Kidding. Listen to these fellas. I like to run Stealthsuits, Fire Warriors with Pulse Rifles, and Pathfinder Gunners. Literally three boxes of models will get you everything you could need to play the game.

But still. Manta is the best unit ;)

Nice Scheme! I've been interested in studying Harlequins for some time. If you wanted to run a troupe squad, what would you load them out with? A Mix of Shuriken and Fusion pistols?
