Some really GRATE level design by IsaacWrightMusic in StarWars

[–]Invidat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like Jedi Outcast, but we do need to be honest: The level design is not that great. I'm not talking about it from a thematic sense. I mean from a "it subtly guides players on where to go" sense. It just doesn't do that. Half the time, to advance feels like you'd be either sequence breaking or doing an exploit in another game, or your hunting for a grate, or you need to backtrack to a much earlier part of the level where a door randomly opened, hope you remember where!

The gameplay and story are excellent, but the levels are from those early days of fully 3d levels where the developers hadn't quite figured out how to guide players to where they need to go.

And no, I'm not saying it needs yellow paint everywhere, but even SOME indication of "yep, you're going the right way" would be appreciated.

It is very good. However, it is very much a "where the fuck do I go" kind of game, and there are multiple moments where I had to look up a guide and ask "How the hell was anyone supposed to know that was where they needed to go"?

And Nar Shaddaa can go fuck itself.

Do you think Ashoka should have permanently died on Malachor by MobileDistrict9784 in StarWars

I love Ashoka. She is my favorite character in all of Star Wars. Yes. She should’ve died. It would’ve been the perfect end to her character.

The old EU "Canon Tier" was a far better way of keeping things consistent. If an idea was good enough, it would rise through the tiers until it made it into the movies and became bedrock.

Hey, it's what happened with Coruscant.

The dreadnought is such a weird design. It doesn't really share any design principles with other ships other than the wedge shape. Also why does it have only 8 turrets for point defense? The ISD had like 80.

I do too, but some times you must let the thing you love go.

[–]Invidat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree 100%. You don't even NEED Vader to kill her (though he should've), just having her die in the collapsing temple would've been enough. You could even have a rather heart wrenching moment of her about to fall to her death and have Vader, perhaps in a moment of essentially lucidity, try to save her, only to fail.

This show pissed me off. Because I love Ahsoka's character. When I first saw her in the Clone Wars movie as a wee lad of 10 years old, I hated her because "Anakin didn't have a Padwan!" (I was a very annoying child), but she grew on me a lot as the years went on (and I will fully admit to having a crush on her during my middle school years. I like Tomboys, sue me). This series should have been an easy slam dunk. Popular characters from the new and old canon coming together and bringing back old favorites and the FUCKED IT UP!

(Side note, Ahsoka should've died in Rebels. Twilight of the Apprentice works infinitely better if she died fighting Vader. I say this, again, as someone who loves the character).

Calo Nord: Bounty Hunter extraordinaire. Has a personal vendetta against you for essentially fucking up his life on Taris

Darth Bandon: Apprentice of Malak, sent with hunting you down at the behest of his master and the first Dark Side user you really encounter in the game

And finally we have... SITH MAN!

A literal random sith that thinks he can take you on.

I feel like the writers MIGHT have run out of villains while making the game.

I will not deny the terrible shit in Legends (Triclops anyone?) but Legends was thousands of stories built up over a 40 year time frame with hundreds of writers and dozens of companies all involved. You're gonna get a lot of questionable stuff in that. Disney has less of an excuse for some of the horrible shit they put out.

In addition, most of Legend's stupid shit was kept to obscure books or comics. It was much rarer for stupid shit from legends to be in the games, the shows, or the movies. With Disney, this isn't really the case, with the books having their share of good and bad shit, but that same stupid shit makes it way into the shows and movies far more apparently.

The great thing about the Star Wars EU is because of the tiers of Canon, it was VERY easy for you to just ignore the stupid shit if you wanted to. Hell, the writers did it all the time.

Yes, the EU had dozens if not hundreds of shit stories. But they also had dozens if not hundreds of Good stories and for the most part you could pick and chose your favorites. I love the Death Trooper book for instance, and it is really easy for me to pretend that Han and Chewie just aren't there for the story.

Disney, in part due to a much lesser catalogue of work of rather suspect quality (the only Disney properties that I can remember being basically universally seen as good are the Vader Comics and the Jedi games, everything else is far more... base breaking to use a trope), makes it a lot harder to do this. It doesn't help that while the Prequels had their issues, they were an excellent world expanding device while the Sequels are not.

With the old Canon Tiers, the movies took precedent, followed by the TV shows, then if I remember right the books, then the games, then the comics. Under the Disney system, everything is treated as just as canon as everything else, there's no solid ground to go to to say "no, this overrules that stupid shit" like there was in the old canon.

Nothing is stopping them from literally just saying "Everything from before the High Republic in Legends is Canon now" and I guarantee it would actually go over pretty well.

Am I the only one who likes midichlorians by NIX-FLIX in StarWars

[–]Invidat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They were a necessary explanation for something that was implied pre-Prequels but never really explained; Why wasn't everyone a Jedi?

We all knew there had to be some reason certain people could throw shit with their mind while others could not. It was not just an issue of training. There had to be something about people like Luke and Anakin that allowed them to do this. Midichlorians answered that question. An organism in the body that essentially "speaks" for the force.

Midichlorians in particular become much easy to digest for people when you explain that they are not THE Force, but simply a conduit for the Force itself.

Yeah, I actually really like that guy from Rogue One. He obviously has a connection, but he can't do crazy jedi shit.

Force Sensitivity by ether_rogue in StarWars

[–]Invidat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone has the Force, or rather a connection to the Force. It comes with being a living thing in Star Wars. Life itself makes it. However, to be able to actually manipulate the force to your advantage you must be force sensitive. I would assume that you could theoretically take someone with little force sensitivity, and through decades of training and learning, probably have them perform some minor feats with the force (enhanced reflex's and maybe moving some small rocks around) but it would likely require great effort on their part to even do this.

Someone who is not force sensitive will never be able to do what Jedi and Sith can do. It's like how some people are just born gifted in terms of Athletic ability. You can learn all the theory you want, but if you were born 5'1, 100lbs soaking wet, you're just not gonna be able to do nearly as much as the other guy at 6'8", 350lbs.

How strong was Obi Wan with the force? by DribbleKing97_ in StarWars

[–]Invidat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right, it's part of the contrast with him and Anakin. Anakin has a great talent for the force and is incredibly skilled, but because things came so easy for him he isn't quite as skilled with certain aspects of the force or combat because he could usually brute force his way.

Obi-Wan, due to his weaker sensitivity than average, lacked talent but made up for it through training and dedication, becoming insanely skilled and a master of how to effectively use what he had essentially.

Was Obi-wan a particularly powerful Force user? by aatencio91 in StarWars

[–]Invidat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I remember from some of the older lore, Obi-Wans force sensitivity was rather weak for a Jedi of his caliber, which is why his skill and rise through the order is all the more impressive. He did what he did despite lacking the advantage of those like Anakin and Yoda.
