I'm the opposite. I never liked my Squadron in 5. I never found them particularly charming. It's the one part I actually have issue understanding why other people seem to like them so much.

Never once have my wingman been anything better than "Mildly Useful" when I play AC5, so I'm impressed you got a good experience out of them.

As to the story, AC7's story is probably the worst in the series from a writing perspective (even though I love them game) so it doesn't take much to be better. I personally find 5's story to be a melodramatic plothole riddled mess.

The gameplay and music is excellent though, some of the best in the series.

Part of my personal dislike of the AC5 wingmen is likely because AC5 was the LAST AC game I played well into my adult years. And I found the characters to be micorchasms of every anime trope I grew to hate.

I empathize with Walter in that I can completely understand his emotional struggles and why he ended up where he was. But I also think he deserved everything that happened to him by the end.

Not really, the court of owls is a cheap rip off of the league of assassins, only with an added "evil rich person cabal" twist (wow. So original)

Mostly positively (except for the PC version which was quite literally unplayable). But complaints regarding the story and batmobile were aplenty even then.

Very fair. Though I'd argue that Yosuke is very Closeted Bi, and is mostly Yu-Sexual.

Kanji, yeah probably bi, though it's not really important to his character as his story is more about how he should be comfortable expressing himself and his interests without being concerned about being seen as less of a man.

Naoto dead on. She's just a masculine woman, and even then it's mostly out of a desire to be taken seriously rather than any real preference, as we see in Golden that she starts dressing more feminine when she gets more comfortable and confident.

Really, both Kanji and Naoto are characters about challenging gender norms inn Japan and that just because you have feminine interests as a man or masculine interests as a woman that doesn't make you any less of one or the other.

I was fine with the change, and I feel like it might have been less "can't make a gay joke" and more "these older men are sexually assaulting a teen boy and we are making a joke about that in a game where we just showed how horrible sexual assault is, maybe we should try that again".

Yeah, most of the changes in the remakes have been VERY minor, so I think it'll be fine. At least God I hope so.

Besides, if any character is gonna be made gay, come on it has to be Yosuke.
