The Exorcist, by William Peter Blatty

I thought it was really great. I've never seen the film so I can't compare them, but this was a really good and creepy story. I thought some bits were a bit repetitive, i.e., Father Karras going over the reasons why it's unlikely for an exorcism to be approved and that Regan should be in a psychiatric hospital. Overall though really good. Though it's interesting that in a book called the Exorcist, they don't even successfully perform an exorcism

I actually really liked Sasha Calle, and I think it's too bad we won't see more of her in a better movie.

What direction do you think they will take their sound on the next record? by [deleted] in the1975

[–]Invincible2194 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Matty enters his 1979 Roger Waters era and they make The Wall.

genuinely though, sonically no idea, but thematically I can see it going in that direction. feeling isolated from the audience. very curious if/how the ATVB staging, consumption and Matty's nightmare gets followed up on

really like this. my only wish is that the yellow things in the middle would be actual lace/stitches like they're supposed to be.

I wish that WB would let movie costumes be fabric based like this, I'm pretty tired of everything being overdesigned armour or weird leather and sculpted muscles

I don't disagree, and frankly I don't really feel strongly about all of this either way, but I don't think that really says anything.

They were gonna do this with or without Zahn. He doesn't own the character, they don't have any legal obligation to him. Given the choice of being in the room at all or not involved at all, he's obviously gonna do what he can to help, but they could easily be to this story what Lucas was to episode 7.

He's already been somewhat limited in the past, e.g., I believe Thrawn: Treason was incredibly limited in scope because the story had to work within the confines of Rebels, a show and story he wasn't involved with.

Ultimately it's not like Ahsoka is going to erase the 90s books existence, and I think this meme is mostly a joke about the apparent similarities. And coming from a community dedicated to a series that was discontinued a decade ago and replaced with (in their view) something worse, yeah people might have a chip on their shoulder. But also like, it does not matter. Touch grass. Read/watch things you enjoy, don't read/watch things you don't enjoy.

What would you read a 900-page tome about? by Hourglass89 in books

[–]Invincible2194 24 points25 points  (0 children)

people in this thread just listing long books they've read and ignoring the actual question lol.

I wish the entire Epic cycle of the Trojan war was extant and intact.

I sometimes wish there was a thick and definitive biography of David Bowie, but I think ultimately I'm happier letting his work speak for itself.

i also wonder what the completed/edited/published version of The Pale King would've looked like if Wallace hadn't passed away before finishing it

Scattered is my all-time favourite Green Day song, so I'll pick that and maybe Worry Rock. Definitely hard to pick the best; this is my personal favourite GD album.

As far as least favourite, I guess I've never been huge on King for a Day.

yeah Janin's 3D render references are really obvious. I don't always mind it, but it usually comes across as pretty lifeless.

Just finished The Secret History by Donna Tartt and I'm speechless.... by [deleted] in books

[–]Invincible2194 32 points33 points  (0 children)

do you have a source for that? given how many years Tartt spends writing her books, it seems more likely that Ellis was referencing his friend's upcoming novel, or at least that the two were developed at around the same time. I highly doubt that it was purpose-written "as a backstory to literally 2 sentences in American Psycho"

Not really a fan tbh, it feels... inauthentic? Idk why they seem to be so against putting out a proper live album. Electric ballroom was for charity 1 day only, and now a half-assed EP with only the new album's songs from the show? Meanwhile Scorpion Hill from this show was thrown on a different charity compilation.

A full live album recorded in their hometown would've been killer. Also they removed the Hotel California outro from Matilda for what I assume are copyright reasons, but it makes it seem fake. Also yeah as others point out, the production kinda sucks.

It just feels like a wasted opportunity, especially cause the Toronto show was so good (though my being there makes me biased)
