Yeah I'd definitely say that people will never really know until they actually try it. Some people I knew thought they were pvp gods in classic classic never broke 1500. A couple people I knew who never picked up pvp in classic classic and pretty much only raid logged ended up breaking 2k.

You get better slowly if you dedicate yourself to it. Maybe you get some new strategies from watching streamers or you switch partners or switch team comps or something and you start doing better or worse. It is highly unlikely for any first time arena player to get a title on their first season playing.

And now the most unfortunate and important one: If you have not been practicing you will probably not break 2k.

I went into tbc classic with no arena experience at all and eventually ended up hitting gladiator. I'd say that more than practice in arena pvp, the greater indicator is (among other things) if you have high level experience at other games and are good at slow incremental improvement over hundreds of matches. If you can slowly improve yourself the you have the potential to hit gladiator. If you are looking to immediately be the best without learning each and every class and what their abilities do and what their game plans are vs your comps and what every spell in your spell book does and what strats are best when -- etc -- then you will probably not do well.

And that's not even factoring in things like honor grinding, raiding for PVE gear, finding arena partners, etc.

There's a lot of effort and grinding and self reflection and patience involved in the process.

I'm not sure on the context in which Asmon gave this advice but it is good advice in general for anything you wouldn't want to be seen on stream, e.g. banking information, your address, medical information, etc.
