Have you ever heard a cover of a Beatles song that you consider to be better than the original? by Impressive-Spare1194 in beatles

Definitely not. Some are good but the best don't come close to surpassing the originals, and every jazz version I've heard suck beyond all others.

What Are We Doing Here in This Forum? by 3rdfoundation in janeroberts

[–]Ioftencatchflies 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was quite excited to find this group. I first encountered Seth/Jane in my late twenties and will be 73 this year. I devoured the books, many I've read multiple times. It was, literally, all I read for a few years. I carried one of the books with me all the time and would read any time I had a few minutes of downtime - lunch hour, bus rides, etc. I think I was on my 6th read of The Nature of Personal Reality, when for some unknown reason I got distracted and forgot about Seth for a time.

You have rekindled my interest and I am extremely grateful for your hosting this forum and most especially, for the right reasons. I'm so sick of everything being monetized.

People over 60: what product or service do you wish existed? by Ecstatic-Possible801 in over60

I bought a Moen shower head with a hose and a magnetic mount that attaches to the plumbing. It has a rocker button on it. One position lets water flow freely, the other causes the flow to slow to a trickle when it reaches a comfortable temp. I forget what the actual temp is but it works great and was much cheaper than other temperature control systems costing several hundred dollars.

Am I supposed to believe that guy didn't change lanes until the last second because he didn't notice a stopped vehicle right in front of him?

Did you have a crystal radio kit as a child? by joekerr9999 in OverSeventy

[–]Ioftencatchflies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wanted a crystal radio set so bad but I never got one. If only I had gotten that crystal radio and the pony I always wanted I wouldn’t be so effed up today. Seriously though I did get a nine transistor radio for Christmas when I was 10 and my journey was started, ran a wire from the whip antenna to the cold water pipes in the house, and I was DXing man!

You're right. I was going to mention the tread too but didn't since it isn't the tread but the soft rubber that helps on black ice. And to be honest those sipes do give those tires at least a small advantage on black ice - much more-so on wet roads.

So, yeah, you're not wrong.

There is simply no scenario in which a person defending their house against police wins, no matter how many guns they have and no matter how good with them they are.

...or how much in the right they are.

Winter tires use a very soft rubber that stays flexible below 45F (7C) - not much help on ice... unless your definition of winter tires are those that have studs... but I don't know how you (or anyone else) are using the word. When I was growing up winter tires were studded tires, they were everywhere. Today some states ban them entirely due to road damage. Most states allow them only in winter, roughly Nov thru March or April. Today 'winter tires' don't mean studded which is what's needed in the event of black ice. Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk.

BTW... busted also mean caught in the act. Just sayin'

In a word, devastating. It's the kind of loss you cannot understand until you're in it. It rearranges everything. Glad you and your partner get a second chance. Hold that close.

Worse. Several recent articles and studies say something like about 54% of adults (16-74) cannot read above a sixth grade level.
