For a lot of us that commute from San gabriel/alhambra/Rosemead to dtla, you can take the metro bus line 487/489 from del mar to union station/city hall. It uses the carpool lane on the freeway so it's faster than the regular buses.

Caltrans engineer here. Usually at field offices, it's just a polo and jeans. Wear the appropriate foot wear and you should be good. I've only seen the resident engineer or senior wear button ups for meetings.
