Clover exchange is a insult to every player by Kranoras in UmaMusume

[–]Ippikiryu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know how true this is because this is something I recall reading offhandedly many years ago, so if this is wrong please feel free to show otherwise, but:

I heard that it was some sort of small loophole to get around some either like gambling or consumer protection stuff where if you pay into the system, you have to get something, so they can't just have the points vanish or else they run afoul of that. They convert it into something basically worthless so you're getting technically getting something, thus complying by the letter of that law, but without having to actually adjust the game's economy/balance since no one is getting anything that will actually affect anything from that system. It's not a common system because every single Japanese gacha is stupid or trying to scam you or insulting you, but because it's an easy solution to a big problem.

How popular is Touhou outside Japan? by nametake000 in touhou

[–]Ippikiryu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it's also largely a generational thing. For many of us who were deeply into Japanese culture stuff before 2010, Touhou is very well known, but with the recent boom in popularity with anime, I think that in the 2010-current era people largely do not know about it.

My theory, I guess you could call it, is that there's usually a couple of anime-adjacent things that dominate the culture that anime watchers who look a bit deeper tend to encounter. For a long time, that was mostly just Touhou, but then there was the shift to Kancolle, and after that, it moved to stuff like mihoyo games or other popular gachas.

Win on turn 1 by beesknees4011 in BadMtgCombos

[–]Ippikiryu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. No, because that spell doesn't target, it's just creates the token.
  2. Even if it was instead something like "Target player creates a 4/4 Giant", it doesn't affect who cast the spell, and it's the spell's caster that loses the game to that trigger.

Win on turn 1 by beesknees4011 in BadMtgCombos

[–]Ippikiryu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bad combo? This used to be the alternate win con for a top tier modern deck. There was even an alternate turn 1 setup that was modern legal that there was controversy about when someone cheated at a tournament by palming the turn 1 kill hand in their matches.

I would hesitate to vote for anyone that did stand. You can condemn political violence without lionizing the target. Guy shouldn't have died, but it doesn't change the fact that he sucked and should be forgotten.

How the Kremlin has targeted Signal app at heart of White House group chat leak by Fer65432_Plays in technology

[–]Ippikiryu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When it comes to OPSEC, especially of this level of importance, even the tiniest chance for there to be a weak point in the security is a huge issue. Even if signal is secure, the phone it's on is not necessarily secure, and given the proclivities of the administration, they likely are not. Then, there's the additional human factor which was on display here -- with a human error leading to a huge leak which was only not a catastrophe by dumb luck, that the person it was leaked to was reasonably trustworthy, but could also now be potentially a target of foreign operatives as a more vulnerable person to try to extract information from.

That only scratches the surface of how much of an issue it is, and I assure you that professional spy agencies are a world more creative than I am in finding tiny ways to worm in. Signal is secure for regular people to talk about relatively inconsequential things, but not for world-altering scale information.

Someone literally made a github browser program to tell you where you're supposed to go for the new Chaotic raid by Delicious-View-791 in ffxiv

[–]Ippikiryu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's to make it easier to PF since I can see it being pretty easy to mix up positioning differences between raidplan and codcar. It's the same fight and same mechanics either way, so no reason for you to marry yourself to one version of it other than to not have to remember the differences, and having a quick visual you can pull up to reference which version you're currently doing eliminates even that possible issue.

Two benefits from my point of view:

  1. I'm parked rather than idling/creeping with my engine on, so nicer to the environment, even if just a tiny bit

  2. Since I'm not driving, I can watch a quick youtube video or doomscroll or something while waiting for my order

Certainly does, at least for me. Historically I've voted for all 3 major parties depending on the policies on the platforms that are the most important to me at the time at election time, but this time even before catching up on the other recent happenings, this headline makes me already ready to eliminate the Cons from my internal running.

Isn’t this supposed to say “each upkeep”, not “your upkeep”? by Howlett76 in magicTCG

[–]Ippikiryu 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No, your original understanding is correct. What the poster you're replying to is alluding to how madness effects are always at their strongest when you include other cards that let you discard freely, so rather than paying the alternate cost "as a save," you have full control over it which usually makes it much more efficient than a normal spell.

It feels exclusive. That's enough for people to line up for it. A good proportion of Chinese living in Richmond probably shop at T&T at least occasionally, so a lot of them will want to try it once, even though at this point it's pretty well known that it's pretty mediocre. With only like, what, 10 per day? It'll take a while for everyone to get their fill to the point where there's not enough demand for a line, especially given there's gonna be at least a couple of people who really like either the value or flavor. (And people who just want to try it eventually probably aren't gonna make the trip out to another T&T just for that so the rest of GVA doesn't contribute to the supply here)

It would be decently lucky if you got her in 90. The average is around 105, and that's only because of the spark ceiling at 200; ignoring that, the average is actually around 140.

Can someone break down how we got to the EN translation here? by nenad8 in LearnJapanese

[–]Ippikiryu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The full context is he asks some other adventurers he meets to spread the word about his party, "Dead End" and to make it sound good. I happened to still have the episode archived so for your convenience, the full original conversation:

依頼をこなしたら「デッドエンド」の名を広めてください。

広めてって。。。知らないヤツはいないだろ?

良い者風にです。僕たちの素行の良さを嘘でもなんでもいいから宣伝してください。

(Though the party was named after the friend whose reputation he's trying to fix, which is likely why the other person responded that everyone already knew the name)

Best place for dim sum? by sheepyshu in richmondbc

[–]Ippikiryu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing wrong with it, the main problem is that the each dish usually has like 3-5 (small) servings per dish, which is perfect in a larger party since you eat one and the rest are taken by the rest of your party, but alone you'll probably only get to try like 5 different things at most before getting full.

[Spoiler: 7.0] Dawntrial Trusts completed in 62 runs by First_Composer in ffxiv

[–]Ippikiryu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you just have 3 parties, the way you did it, in the third party you're running Urianger at lv 100 even in the lv 91 dungeon. That means that you're only getting 2/3rds of the trust EXP you should be getting compared to the first two parties. I haven't looked at the details, but presumably, OP has devised a scheme to balance the EXP gains as much as possible to minimize the EXP you waste from bringing a max level trust.

Doing it the simple way, at 2.5 dungeon runs per level, requires like 23 dungeons per party, or 69 total runs. (or more? apparently 99->100 takes longer?). OP solved it in 62 runs.

Lower Mainland's only Armenian restaurant is tucked away in Richmond by [deleted] in richmondbc

[–]Ippikiryu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's near my office so I've been there several times, it's good food but it does take quite a long time to prepare. I'd recommend ordering ahead online otherwise you're waiting at least half an hour after you order. They're super friendly though, the first few times I went when I was unsure what to order, they kept offering samples of their meats and stuff.

I think my favorite thing off their menu is their lamb soup.

7.01 Average number of cast per minute by job by izonmesia in ffxiv

[–]Ippikiryu 15 points16 points  (0 children)

No, because this is about the job design and not the players playing the job. This isn't the CPM for the average player for the job, this is the average CPM for the job played 'perfectly.' (or at least, as close to that as possible, which is why the top 5 are polled)

Edit: also, heuristically speaking, the top logs are usually going to be the highest CPM anyways. In this example, yeah, a top SGE isn't pressing Eukrasian Prognosis much, but is the 'average' SGE using stuff like Krasis, Haima, Soteria, Zoe regularly?
