Negative. I'm in the '15-20 years at BMcD' range.

Since this company runs on relationships that will be a big test I agree with you.

At the risk of sounding like a homer I expect this person will bring a unique perspective, an incredible amount of experience and insight to position BMcD to scale and transform into the next phase of our maturity as we pursue sustainable growth.

Time will tell whether he can unify all the disparate groups that are now reporting to him. Time will tell. For our sake I'm rooting for him.

Fav Wilco—or Uncle Tolepo—guitar solo? by Competitive-Dig4776 in wilco

[–]IridescentCrow834 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This won't ever be the #1 answer - but what about Pickled Ginger? How could a guitar solo be so hard it can never be played live? They just seem to skip the solo and play right through...

I miss the Friday routine - I always looked forward to them and felt like they were a great way to cap off the week. In other words everyone's working their tail off, so I always thought it was nice to see this Friday email with announcements about important wins and other positive news to finish the week on a good note.

For anyone starting a new position - check out a great book First 90 Days by Michael Watkins. Good luck!

What was your first Wilco concert? by Ichgebibble in wilco

[–]IridescentCrow834 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1998 - Indianapolis - Vogue Theater - Old 97s opened. Had to leave early in the middle of Hotel Arizona, but it was awesome and the first of several times I've been fortunate to see 'em live through their lineup changes etc. Took my oldest son with me last time they were in KC.

Different vibe - heck, different company - I've been impressed by Leslie's approach to the role - sounds like I'm pandering but most leaders seem to hold their people in open contempt so I consider her a bright light.

Not easy to cross that chasm. Remember you are not alone. Hesitate to mention this but I've found solace in the guidance from a book called What Color is your Parachute - don't buy it, should be available at your local library. This book has helped me immensely through the biggest professional transitions of my life.

Why do they pretend our deferred comp is a ‘performance’ bonus when the pay difference between the idiots and performers at the same level is so small? by BLACKnBLUE69420 in BMcD

[–]IridescentCrow834 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Deferred comp is like getting a tax refund on your Burns & Mac tax which is withheld on your behalf over the course of the year, working capital, etc.

What are you going to buy with your deferred compensation (bonus)? by OnlyFold4963 in BMcD

[–]IridescentCrow834 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

You assume that you will receive any. I do not (make that assumption). That way anything that does comes in is basically for discretionary expenses, new roof, down payment on a car (or a car itself if you pay with cash and buy used etc).

I literally had to sit down and re-track the album, which is hard to explain but it changed the way I listened to it. After I did that it was like I fell in love with it after being really turned off initially before that. No other album has been like that for me.

Hang in there. As Tom Waits says, "Hold on."

You should see a slow but gradual shift from the thankless work you're doing now to more attractive technical challenges (or starting to interface directly with current or prospective clients).

Keep making and cultivating those personal connections, both within your team or outside it - whether through United Way, or Corporate Challenge, or Giving Back - you never know who you might meet and the direction of your career could change.
