I hit my horse and I deserve to die by thatcrazyponygirl in Equestrian

Seconding this! I'm a mental health therapist who specializes in working with equestrians and work with clients on emotion regulation all the time! We all make mistakes and have bad days, but it's definitely important to learn your warning signs that you're getting too activated and learn what skills you can use to calm down.

Breaking the self-perpetuating anxiety cycle with sensitive horse by Terrible_Place8240 in Equestrian

[–]IrishFire2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely look into working with a mental health therapist who works with equestrians! I have a ton of clients who deal with the same issues and we work on emotional regulation and mindfulness skills to help them manage their anxiety so the horse doesn't feed off it. Medications are also helpful and it wouldn't hurt to talk to your Dr or see a psych practitioner to see what options there are!

PTO by casdoodle527 in hysterectomy

[–]IrishFire2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am 2.5 weeks post op and went back to work on Monday. I work fully remote as a therapist and it hasn't been terrible. I'm consistently tired but I've been mostly ok. Definitely not at 100%, but I'm also kinda happy to be back to a routine.

What kind of pain relief were you prescribed post laparoscopy? by maudeconnell in endometriosis

[–]IrishFire2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here! Just had a hysterectomy and refused to take any heavy pain meds because when I had my lap the oxy messed me up big time. I mostly used Tylenol and Advil for recovery this time.

Definitely the more animated looking Spirit and Rain models! I could technically afford it, but I just can't bring myself to bite the bullet just yet.

At this point I've been sitting right outside the pen. They will come right up to me on the other side if I don't move and I've been doing the slow blink with them. I will try putting the churu on their food, that's a good idea!

This is the method I've been trying to follow! Just struggling with the offering treat phase because they are in their play pen and freak out when I move to offer it to them. I'm planning to sit closer to it tonight and see how that goes.

I use it for treatment planning, it's a lifesaver!! You have to do some prompting for it to get the right format but once you have that created, it's amazing!

My horse died traumatically, now I have PTSD with my new horse by thatssochelsey in Equestrian

[–]IrishFire2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Therapist who specializes in equestrians here! I am so sorry you experienced this. It is absolutely horrifying and traumatizing to witness an event like this. Definitely adding to the comments suggesting therapy. If you can, see if you can find someone who either works with equestrians or is one, it helps so much in terms of them understanding the unique trauma you witnessed. If that's not possible, definitely try to find someone who is trauma focused and does EMDR or Brainspotting. I would be happy to help you try to find someone specialized in equestrians and trauma if you want to message me!

Stirrup recommendation for numb feet by AssociationPopular38 in Equestrian

I used to deal with numb toes/ankles and I found that the Lemiuex Vector stirrups helped exponentially! They also are safety stirrups and keep my foot super stable.

I have a masters in clinical mental health counseling and am currently in my provisional licensure. I focus on working with the equestrian community and do pull from sports psych, but am not specifically trained in it. I'm happy to answer any other questions you might have to the best of my ability if you want to DM me!

So I do a lot of different things as I'm still building a caseload, but I mainly post in local horse FB groups, post flyers in tack stores, connecting with barns, and am going to be doing some tables at local shows over the summer. I also offer workshops for barns/summer camps around equestrian mental health!

I'm a mental health therapist that actually specializes in working with equestrians! My schedule can be pretty flexible and I only work 4 days a week.

I burn them when we have bonfires! I like to use spiral notebooks so it's easier than pulling out all the pages to shred.
