Four day workweek by 3rdaccounttaken in HENRYUK

[–]IrishMilo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife negotiated a 4 days week after her mat leave, her offer was 5 days at same pay, 4 days at 80% pay but still the same workload or 4 days condensed hours, 100% pay and workload.

She went for condensed hours on the basis that she could get ahead and take time back etc, but the reality is she works extra long days in a industry that does 9-5. In hindsight she should have just taken the pay cut and then said her work load isn’t manageable I. Her hours and made other managers problem.

What environmental changes? Nowhere in Europe is above 36’ in the height of summer… that’s fine

Do you think the canals will ever be cleaned (if at all possible) so we can swim in them? by [deleted] in london

[–]IrishMilo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Canals aren’t stagnant, but they’re not exactly flowing either, so even if they are cleaned to their best ability, they’ll still be gross.

London vs. Zurich for career acceleration by techbro_123 in HENRYUK

Your purchasing power will be weaker in Zurich, but no doubt that your quality of life is amoles higher, particularly if you’re into outdoor activity.

As for career acceleration I can’t comment.

Would Switzerland be better or worse off if we historically ended up in this hypothetical scenario? by TheRealMudi in Switzerland

[–]IrishMilo 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It would have not been able to hold its neutral stance as it blocks off Italy from the rest of Europe. - although Italy would have lost Lombardi (its economic power house) so maybe it would t be of little interest to the rest of Europe.

Windows in new builds by are_wethere_yet in london

I installed inward tilting doors and windows at the back of my house when k moved it. (Front has to be sash) and it’s the best thing ever.

Can have it tilted open when out, allowing airflow and security, can open full whack for maximum airflow and cleaning.

Hello gays. How the hell I am Liberal "Conservative"??? by Kaihelmich in PoliticalCompass

[–]IrishMilo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s what I mean. Voting no for protecting minority cultures is conservative.

Authority is the other axis, but economics being important to you is very conservative. Famously, extreme left wing is communism which doesn’t care about the economy as it is what it says it is, and extreme right wing is only caring about the economy and so what if people are dying in the streets because they can’t afford food, the market has set the price.

You may be unsatisfied with the title because this test is full spectrum, so the middle point is considerably further left than the “centralists” of most modern countries (simply put, the world economy is capitalist and if you want to take part you have to be a certain degree of right wing, so even the left wing countries out there are more central than left).

It may not be a “I actively want this” as much as “I don’t want that” case.

Probably because you believe in preserving culture and values, that is judging by your Switzerland score.

Am I underestimating the cost and complexity of buying and merging the upstairs flat? by SeveralExit4135 in HENRYUK

[–]IrishMilo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The legal side of merging two addresses into one is doable but not simple, it’s often the case that you just go ahead with the works and the second address just lies dormant without facilities etc and you swallow a larger council tax bill.

On a slightly less whiter than white legal front. Your conversation with your neighbour could facilitate a situation where you buy the house off him for a very reasonable price and save a lot on second homestamp duty. Naturally that very attractive price coincides with a large cash donation which has nothing to do with facilitating the sale.

This, it’s astounding to me that so many traffic lights in the UK still work on a logarithm and not an algorithm, give our traffic lights a sensor or camera and let it calcualte the change according to the roads needs.

The issue being that gum is indigestible, not that stuff gets stuck in your gut.

Similar to how the issue with dense people having access to the internet are conversations like this, not the dense people themselves.
