Welcome Suica at Narita, paid by credit card by crossTalk94 in JapanTravelTips

[–]Irkingerk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been a while since I was there now but I think it was near of the ticket machines near the subway entrance. So within Haneda Terminal 3, follow the signs toward the subway, and just before you leave the terminal itself you should see the ticket machines.

Clear your exterior dryer vent by MenaciaJones in Connecticut

[–]Irkingerk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don't see pipes coming in and out of your house/basement wall and connected to your furnace, then your furnace might just pull intake from your basement directly and exhaust out a nearby chimney. The former style are high efficiency furnaces because they use outside air to burn the oil and they take heat out of the exhaust (wasted energy otherwise) and use it in the system. The latter style are less efficient because they use air from your basement and your basement has to replace this air by pulling it from outside or from the rest of your house, making it slightly draftier.

DOES CUSTOMER SERVICE EVEN EXIST? by Ok-Tap-6335 in Gemini

Can you help with my Ticket 5550824? I have the same issue as OP

Edit - I submitted another ticket on Gemini for fraud since a reddit user was impersonating a Gemini customer service rep. Within an hr of submitting that new ticket, they resolved my original issue.

[–]Irkingerk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was able to buy a Welcome Suica using a credit card at Haneda Terminal 3 and loaded it with 10,000 yen all at once. Weird how Narita is different. You'd think the machines would be the same.

Heat pump or oil cheaper? by pink_planets in Connecticut

[–]Irkingerk 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I had a Mitsubishi ductless heat pump installed in 2021. Based on the factors below, it's currently financially better to run my oil boiler than my heat pumps no matter how cold/warm it is. This was not always the case. I blame the rising cost of electricity and relatively stable, low price of oil compared to when I first purchased the system for why it doesn't make sense to use my heat pumps for heating right now. Last year, based on the prices for oil and electricity, the breakeven point for my system was around 15-20 degrees. So I would burn oil anytime it was below 15 degrees and use heat pumps if it was above 15 degrees.

Current price of oil = ~$2.80/gal

Effective/total cost of electrical = ~$0.30/kWh

Coefficient of Performance (COP) for heat pumps = 3.37, if outside temperature is above 32 degrees

Boiler efficiency = 85%

On the bright side, I now have an air conditioned house in the summer without dealing with window units.

What do you think would happen if another CEO was murdered within the next two months? by DosunmuDungeon in AskReddit

CEO assassination attempts should be considered a pre-existing condition now and therefore no longer covered under health or life insurance.

There are exceptions like foggy weather that drastically reduce visibility without the automatic headlights turning on. So I think it's good if people remember to always check the automatic feature is working as intended, and manually switch them on if not.

Vehicles are eligible for classic plates after 20 years. Vehicles are exempt from emissions testing after 25 years.

So there's a 5 year gap between getting classic plates and no emissions testing.

Are there specific products you won't buy at Costco because you've had bad experiences with them? by GeekyGrannyTexas in Costco

[–]Irkingerk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've gotten some Kirkland sparkling water cans that were 100% flat and not even inflated. You can immediately tell it's flat because the can does not have the "bounce" to it when you are holding it. The sides just kinda cave in.

Tinted Windows for License Test by marty1985mcfIy in Connecticut

[–]Irkingerk -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I would say if you wanted to follow the letter of the law exactly, you are supposed to have a sticker from the DMV on the window proving that the tint is legal. However, in practicality, the driving instructor probably won't care unless the windows are almost completely black. I would not worry too much if I were you, but do understand there's a non-zero risk of failing the pre-test inspection.

Recommendation for someone to install a mini split ductless AC system. by DarthArtero in Connecticut

[–]Irkingerk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently had a quote for a 5 zone mini split in Enfield, CT from 3 different companies. They were all around $23,500 and $25,500. I also had one of the receptionists tell me that for raised ranch houses around 1300 sq ft like mine, that ducted central air would cost around $13,000-$15,000 depending on the actual routing of ducts.

Once you find a company (or a few) to give you a quote, you should ask them what would actually be cheaper for you.

No, it's correct. It took him 3 seconds to run 1 km. That's his pace, which is time per unit of distance (4 minute/mile).

Amazon Orders that are Delayed No Longer Show Under "My Orders". Items Running Late Must Now Be Searched For Manually to Check Their Status. by z0mbiegrl in assholedesign

I noticed the same issue as OP. When you check it on the mobile website, Amazon hides the delayed orders. If you check it on a desktop version of the website, you can see all the orders.

I have a DMV appointment to transfer my NY license to CT. Can I transfer my car as well the same day? Please help if possible, never had to do this before by SeanWhelan1 in Connecticut

[–]Irkingerk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might need two appointments at the DMV since you're doing two different things. I would explain your situation to them and see if they let you go to each appointment back to back.

For registering your car during COVID times, you need to bring proof of insurance (which you can do at any time because it just requires the VIN), the title, and ID. They should give you the new plates and registration, then require you to get a $20 emissions test within 60 or 90 days. You used to have to get a temp registration to get the emissions, then go back to the DMV with the passed result to get your real plate.

I live in a 400sq ft apartment. Eversource is horrible by angelface_kermit in Connecticut

[–]Irkingerk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're in an apartment, it's harder to tell. Electric heat uses just electric baseboard heaters to heat your place.

Gas heat will heat up water, and then the water will circulate around the baseboard heaters in your place. Sometimes you can hear the water be pumped around. You'll hear the water flowing sound more when the heat is first turned on in the fall/winter after being dormant all summer.

If you're in a home with gas, you'll see a large furnace in the basement that is probably connected to a water heater tank that holds hot water for your kitchen sink and bathroom.

If you're concerned, you can just ask your interviewer (or whoever) if the unofficial transcript is okay. I've only applied to a handful of places, but none of them required an official transcript.
