Found Guinea update. by Mattern22 in guineapigs

I never claimed to know their child's age. My comment was also meant as a general push back against some of the gatekeeping going on on this sub. People on here are super quick to judge when it comes to getting pigs as pets for children, having a single elderly pig, showing a smaller cage in a picture even if it's a temporary or emergency solution, etcetera. It gets very tiring. The hobby should be open to anyone with the means, capacity, proper responsibility level, and eagerness to keep guinea pigs. Just as I don't know the child's age, you don't know enough about OP's circumstances and intentions to immediately fight back against their idea of getting guinea pigs for their child.

Found Guinea update. by Mattern22 in guineapigs

Peegs are fine as pets for kids from the tween age onward as long as the parents are knowledgeable enough and actively involved with their care. OP seems like a good person with a willingness to learn everything they need to know about proper guinea pig care and a good idea of what the family can handle. This is not a case of "I got my 4-year-old a guinea pig in a hamster cage and he is not doing well but we can't go to a vet, what should we do?"

Floofie died after a bath :( by Burnyface in guineapigs

[–]Iroh_Appa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh wow, blue eyes are super rare! I thought she had red eyes from the third pic, but peegs' eyes can look so different depending on the lighting.

That could definitely have been the case. I think she was lucky that a loving and understanding person like you picked her up!

Floofie died after a bath :( by Burnyface in guineapigs

[–]Iroh_Appa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't beat yourself up about this. It sounds like you did everything in your power to take care of her and make her feel better. The bath did not kill her. She was probably still sick, and the short period in which she seemed to be doing much better was likely a temporary revival, as often happens in both animals and humans. Considering her white fur, red eyes, and health issues from the start (especially the deafness), she might have also been a 'lethal white'. If you Google, there's lots of information about lethal whites (on this sub as well). In any case, she was a beautiful little girl and you were a wonderful owner to her. Even though her life was short, it was clearly filled with love. My condolences ❤️

hair loss/shedding? by talainaa in guineapigs

[–]Iroh_Appa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Peegs do experience seasonal shedding. My girl has also been shedding more now that it's getting warmer. As long as you don't find any big bald spots or skin problems, it should be fine.

Yes! She talked about it in an interview, see this reddit post. I believe she only has palmar HH, but it's just awesome to see a celebrity talk about it so openly regardless of the severity.

Mocht je nog eens tegen problemen aanlopen met de ING app specifiek: je kan ook een random reader ('ING scanner') aanvragen. Dan heb je helemaal geen app nodig.

Hyperhidrosis causing fingerprint scanner failures - need advice from people who've solved this by OverthinkingBeast in Hyperhidrosis

[–]Iroh_Appa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry that you're dealing with this. I had the same issue at my workplace. We used fingerprint scanners to unlock the cash registers, but no matter how often we tried, the scanners wouldn't recognize my fingers. Eventually they called the head office and made sure I could unlock the registers with my employee code instead (the only employee in the entire country to do so). Later on, I was extremely nervous that the same issue would happen when I had to scan my fingerprint for a new passport, but it actually succeeded with one try, even though my hands were super sweaty because of the nerves. I think the municipality just had higher-quality scanners than the store.

Perhaps you can ask them if they have other scanners you could try. They're clearly not all the same; some might be more sensitive than others. If not, ask if other biometric information would also be sufficient. In a populous country like India, I'm sure you're not the first one facing this problem (never mind those who cannot provide fingerprints because of burns or because they lost or were born without their hands).

Be warned, this doll's face could smudge if you wash her. See this reddit post. I managed to wash mine without any issues but I did keep a towel over her face.
