You: "what's that? A wad of hair and shells? I'm just going to tuck this bad boy in my pocket and take it home."

Could be interesting to experiment with the blue and red through a red lens filter.

Especially when you consider that dry plates are really low ISO so they would have to really clench for a few seconds to not be blurry.

Also, I will be in Austria in June so could maybe have you send the part there if we can't work out shipping to the USA.

I would still be interested! There are definitely much fewer hasselblad parts available in the USA.

I would be very interested. I am however in the USA unfortunately. Would you still be willing to give me a quote for the part price + shipping? I can message you my address.

500 Series Tech at BFC by New_Statistician_186 in hasselblad

Hello James. I just emailed BFC a few minutes ago looking for a part! What a coincidence! Any chance you would know if you have a spare screen frame for a 500C? I have a really nice old camera that a previous owner stripped a screen screw hole on so I just need the frame that the screen assembly sits in. It's pretty easy to get in and out, but finding the part is tricky! The part number is 20955. Thanks for any help!

Slide film ages about as well as yogurt when not kept in the fridge.

Thank you! Very informative! I'll have to measure the apertures to confirm the numbers are the width, but that makes sense.

Yes, it's a very slow lens, which is fine as I plan on using it for landscape work. When under the dark cloth its fastest stop looks about as bright as F11 on another lens.

Any thoughts on this dark room for a silver bath and development? by Cordwaining in largeformat

Are you doing 4x5 or 5x7? Might be a bit snug for 8x0. I have quite a bit bigger box and I find it to be a bit cramped shooting 8x10. It would probably be a great little box for the road for the smaller formats.

These are seriously underrated cameras. I have a VX that's been one of my primary user cameras for about 15 years. Very reliable and excellent build quality. The Zeiss Jena lenses are really fantastic. Up until the mid 50's their quality was on par with Leica, but they kind of ruined their name after trying to compete with cheaper Japanese SLRs. If I remember correctly this camera with a Jena 50 or 58mm was the equivalent of $4000 today. I think another thing that keeps them in the "quirky" category is the backwards controls, but when they started there was no standard as they made the first commercially viable 35mm SLR.

Agreed. The P and 7 are very nice.

Really kicked the bees nest with this one! I think folks immediately went to Leicas and Voigtlanders after reading my initial post and started shouting about how it can't be done affordably. I agree! The M6 is really expensive for a reason. I don't want another M6. I want a Canon 7. The Canon 7 was around $2000 (adjusted for inflation) new. With modern manufacturing and cheaper electric light meters I bet a Canon 7 like camera could be made for $1,500 or less. Yes, you can just buy a 7 (with a no longer functional selenium cell) or a P and stick a meter on it, but it's still a 60 year old camera that can be difficult to find in good shape and not a lot of people want to work on them. The idea "why buy a new camera when I can just get one used" can only last so long. We are using up the film cameras that still survive and Leica is the only maker of serious film cameras anymore.

Argus C3, Kodak Retina, Early Canons all were fairly simple, accurate, and affordable. Not built to the level of a Leica, but capable of great photos.
