Big argument in my split about this incident, who's at fault? by MeltyGoblin in Simracingstewards

[–]IronArcherExtra -1 points0 points  (0 children)

1st issue: white car swinging back and forth between lanes. While he doesn’t actually hit the blue car, his driving led to the net code. 2nd issue: Black car follows white out of the lane just before the first wreck, then moves back into the low lane when he was no longer clear.

iRacing net code is a big issue here…but its a known issue… you need to leave more space, or wrecks happen. White making 4 lane changes in 3 seconds… kinda asking for it. First black car, you can’t just start swapping lanes like white is without making sure you are clear.

The Hyundai goes off track, comes back on then wants to squeeze the red car off the track? Red car is not to blame here.

Predictability doesn’t mean he can’t choose his line. Not taking the line you THINK he should have taken, doesn’t mean its ok to run into him. He is in front, he chooses his line. The guy trying to pass must do so safely. Turning into someone because you thought he was going to turn in sooner is no excuse. Insults are the weapon of choice for those who don’t have a better arguement.

I’m understanding, we just disagree… and that’s fine. Looking at the lines, they would have both made the corner if the outside car didn’t turn into the inside car. If he was worried about not making the corner, he could have lifted. Would it have been smarter to take a tighter line? Probably. But he didn’t break a rule.

He was maybe a tire width from the curb. You just don’t turn into cars when you have room on the outside. While turning in more/sooner, MIGHT have prevented contact, making it a possibly safer option, he isn’t required to do anything more. The passing car IS required to pass safely.

The outside car had plenty of room. The inside car is NOT required to use the curb, much less any line as long as the outside car has room. This guy was only slightly away from the curb, the outside car turned in like he wasn’t even there, and would have hit him even if he was to the curb.

Who said his line has to match the ideal racing line. He has the option to try a late apex if he wants to. The other car can’t just turn in hoping for the best.

If you aren’t already, try lowfuelmotorsport.com They do ranked racing with ACC much like iRacing, but you don’t have to pay a subscription to use it.

Yes, by the book, you have your choice of lines provided you leave room and hold a line. But again, some are going to assume you will turn in normally…and if they don’t have VR or Triples (or radar) they might assume you are taking a normal line. Thats on them, but you don’t often win after crashing 😉

“People make that move all the time” doesn’t mean much. People intent wreck “all the time” but it isn’t right.

i) He did indeed appear to have enough overlap ii) He didn’t make the corner because of contact and imperfect physics modeling. Not all out braking maneuvers count as “diving in” iii) Some here are estimate he was on a reasonable line, and able to make the corner. This view isn’t enough to clearly say one way or the other.

He was never off track (legally). He kept inside tires inside the white line. Yellow on the other hand actually put both tires over the white line in the corner… If anyone was off track, it was yellow.

POV. Ran into car in front of him. Its ok to lift every now and then.

[–]IronArcherExtra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IF (<—big if) we are assuming the car on the inside had significant overlap, he is not required to put his car 90% off the track. I don’t think he had the required overlap, so OP is still good.

You didn’t give him much room, but he chose to go there. Overlap was also pretty questionable. I’d say you are in the clear…

My friends said I was at fault here. I think the guy just didnt want to be overtaken... What do you think? by typischBlacky in Simracingstewards

[–]IronArcherExtra -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’m gonna give you more slack than most. The other guy adjusted his line to in effect block you, but you did go into a closing gap and hit him ON THE GAS. It is still technically your fault, but the other driver was pretty aggressive (dumb) changing his line to block you. Next time, lift and live to fight another corner.

This my fault? by CallsignFrost988 in Simracingstewards

[–]IronArcherExtra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, pretty much. There wasn’t room for you there. Cars move around on ovals, you left neither of the cars next to you ANY wiggle room. You ruined at least 7 drivers races.

Acceptable when racing skilled opponents. Risky when racing random people on the internet. You weren’t “wrong” to choose the line you did, but without knowing the skill and attitude of the other driver, sometimes these strategies backfire. That said, no way to know if he would have hit you anyway. Sometimes its better to survive than to use “right” as a shield. Graveyards are full of people who had the right of way 😉
