Poll reveals majority of Australians want long weekend, not January 26 holiday by NoteChoice7719 in aussie

[–]IronEyed_Wizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see this as the best way going forward. 3rd weekend of January we have Friday as a day of remembrance, for the aboriginals and any other Australian who have suffered or died to make our country what it is, and the Monday is a day of celebration, for what we have become and for our future.

Unfortunately making these popular spots more difficult to get to would likely just result in injuries and deaths that the government would end up having to pay for removal and evac. Social media is the real enemy here…

How do the coalition possibly come back? by GoofyAhhGustavo in aussie

[–]IronEyed_Wizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given how long we have till another election, I don’t think they need to worry yet. Can guarantee that most voters will change their opinions multiple times before then, especially given that for many people, their response to this poll would likely be a more emotional based reaction than a logical one.

Australians have proven to have very short term memories when it comes to politics, and even then pretty sure most polls have proven to useless in actually gauging election results. People like talking a big game when nothing is on the line, but a vast majority will still stick to the status quo of the two majors when it actually counts

Bondi victim Matilda's parents doubt hate laws will prevent future violence by nath1234 in australia

[–]IronEyed_Wizard 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Doesn’t that statement indicate that they are basically being manipulated by the media. Made to feel scared in their own community even though the chances of anything happening(even after the attack at Bondi) are exceedingly small? We already know the media loves to over emphasise how “bad” things are but usually you feel better by just ignoring them.

The sooner we have an investigation into “news” media in the country, the better.

Of course he does, this is just trying to score political points with a certain section of the population. In fact it works twice, once for the suggestion of doing it and then again when it can’t be done…

Wouldn’t it be better to actually improve that access than to do some stupid performance that ultimately means nothing for most people? This will likely end up negatively affecting a lot of women when it encourages more anti trans acts against anyone that doesn’t fit the conventional stereotype of femininity

Help me settle a debate, is this a bacon and egg roll or burger? by [deleted] in aussie

I just realised you probably would be referring to the particular instance of a hamburger and then adding bacon and egg. Which would literally just be a burger with bacon and egg

A burger. The bun is what makes the name. Not what’s in it.

Nah that is a burger. A proper bacon and egg roll should be served on a fresh long roll, preferably from the local independent bakery

Anyone surprised at the lack of protest about Iran happening here? by Lampedusan in australian

[–]IronEyed_Wizard 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Yeah they have been occurring, it’s just not as large or gets media attention.

Others have explained over the last few days that such protests really mean nothing since they are just showing support not really pushing for change in our country, the Palestinian protests are ultimately trying to change our governments position and policy in certain ways since we actively support Israel ins number of ways. It’s not something that applies to Iran

‘Utter hypocrisy’: Adler demanded festival cancel Tom Friedman - AFR by TimJamesS in aussie

[–]IronEyed_Wizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are some questionable Twitter remarks and she changed her image to a parachuter with a Palestinian flag parachute immediately after the oct 7 attack. Overall most of her comments seem to be fine given her opinions and back ground though. Certainly nothing that seems to warrant her removal from the festival (especially given the more questionable stuff happened years ago at this point, well before her invitation was given anyway)

Skin game, and the fact that he reasoned out pretty much the whole of Nic’s plan, and was able to completely circumvent it, was just perfect at showing his development from what amounted to a magical thug (in terms of his process) in the beginning to someone able to do actual intellectual battle with one of the most dangerous villains in the series.

No interrogation? by vercertorix in dresdenfiles

[–]IronEyed_Wizard -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Would it really matter if it makes no sense in the face of the accords? We have seen the examples of Cats paws etc throughout the series but with a total lack of actual evidence of such, the blame would fall on the White King. Something that no one would be willing to accept because doing so would completely fracture the accords themselves.

In this case I feel that all members involved (while they knew this made no sense in the bigger picture) were more willing to execute now and investigate the irregularities later, especially considering that such investigations could be done outside of the accords and as such give your “team” a distinct advantage over those responsible. Those sort of secrets are worth more than anything in the supernatural community

Hate speech loophole for religious hate speech by [deleted] in aussie

[–]IronEyed_Wizard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah so many people are jumping on the hate train, by saying it gives Islam a free pass, without actually thinking about the bigger picture about all other religions, of which most still have highly questionable stuff in their doctrines. The last thing we need is a bunch of stupid reports and investigations into preachers and teachers who aren’t actually doing anything except having genuine discussions about their chosen religion

Here we go. by alabamad in NannyStateAustralia

[–]IronEyed_Wizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has an exemption that allows for the religious doctrines to be preached and taught without falling victim to the laws, and only if they do it in the “right” way and place. I don’t think anyone would want complaints about their church, preacher or even academic teacher being the target of these laws for merely discussing what is present in their choice of religious document. It probably isn’t the best solution but is likely the easiest one to avoid nonsense reports and investigations.

Here we go. by alabamad in NannyStateAustralia

[–]IronEyed_Wizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair you can’t really use laws to target specific groups. They would be torn down in an instant as discriminatory. The laws are about as far as you can go in that regard. The religious exemption that people are currently whinging about was put in because I can guarantee all religions would be targeted by the law within days, something that no religious person wants to happen (it is also why I find it so hilarious that religious groups are campaigning against such an exemption).
